Default Media Card Encryption

Hey guys, When i got my first Blackberry (9630 Tour) my media card somehow got encrypted. When i got my current phone in Oct. (9930 Bold) the media card message showed up about having encrypted files on it and desktop manager is now not able to transfer any files, pics, audio etc from my card to my computer or vice versa. I put my media card back into my Tour and it shows encryption is turned off. However it still shows the media card is encrypted when inserted in to my 9930 Bold. What can i do to unencrypt my media card so i can transfer stuff/sync stuff with my 9930 to my computer. please let me know as this is annoying

Some information:

Turning off encryption only stops encryption of new files. Those files that are encrypted stay encrypted.

If the option to encrypt using the device key was selected, the files can only be open or unencrypted using the original blackberry. If the option to use only the device password was selected, set the new BlackBerry to the same password.

To unencrypt a file, turn encryption off. Then, on the BlackBerry, move the file. The file will now not be encrhpted. Move the file back to the original location. If the device key was selected in options, you must to this on the original BlacKBerry.

wow that sounds like a lot of work haha

Would it be easier to get a new bigger media card and transfer all files on to that without using BB and then it wont be encrypted?

The encrypted files will still be encrypted.

Encrypted media files sync'd to a computer with desktop manager may be unencrypted on the computer. I think so, but I've never done it. That would be something to test.

But encrypted files on the card, or files copied or moved to another card using a computer will still be encrypted. The only way to change the file from encrypted to not encrypted on the card is with the BlackBerry.

Encrypted files have a .rem extension.

So, a file like abcd.jpg is not encrypted. But abcd.jpg.rem is encrypted.
