Yeah. Noticed that. If you plug the charger in while the screen is on, it seems to remain on. If you let it time out first then plug it in, the screen will come on and then go out normally after the timeout.
one way to take it off while its charging is to bring up the clock icon. then hit your blackberry button, theres an option to set it in bedside mode which will turn backlighting off and dim down very low. it will also turn off the LED light. just make sure when you get up in the mornings to exit from bedside mode
