I'm trying to find a setting (hopefully one exists) to see recent calls and dial numbers. I lock my keyboard to use short codes such as "U" for calculator etc so I can just punch numbers in.

Call activity icon should be in with the other icons. Have you made sure it is not hidden? Check any folders you may have.
