I got my second Tour today by claiming with asurion. (Verizon). Anyways the second phone that I got was packaged differently than the first and comes with everything that I got when I originally bought my Tour. How can I tell if this phone is new or refurbished?

Go into option > about> scroll down. If it is, it'll show a refurb date.

How can that be when the About page comes from the OS? If you upgrade your OS, that page gets wiped. There's nothing on it about refurb dates.

I thought replacement phones sent in the mail were always refurbs? It was my impression that after the 30 day warranty they replaced the phone with a refurb for the remaining 11 months of the one year warranty.

This late into production I would say they all are.

I think because it is stored on a chip if I had to guess.

Refurb info isn't stored on a chip. As for the about screen, I'd need to see a screenshot to believe it. This is the first I've heard of refurb info showing on the about page.

I'm not trying to be combative here, it just doesn't ring true.

Trust me it does. I just recvd my replacement yesterday. On the About page with the Blackberry heading. It says Reburbished: Y(29 Jan 2010)
Hmmm. Well, then I stand corrected. Sorry to have doubted it. I have a refurb and my about screen doesn't say anything about refurbished, but then again the first thing I did is get rid of .591 and install a non official OS.

The easiest way to tell is to pull out the battery. Asurion replaces the oem sticker with their sticker. Odds are if its a replacement its refurbished.

I agree.. it would be very rare to get a new phone at this point unless it's one with a camera .. still a few of those floating about

I had to replace my phone, and I also have the verizon tour with a camera and It's new. I replaced it about a month ago though.

I replaced mine last week in a corporate store. The sticker behind the battery says NB 05/10.

What does that mean? New or refurb? When I go into Options / Status and type buyr, it says 4 hours talk time and 250 MB total data. I'm guessing this can't be a refurb because of the low usage. If that's the case, sorry to 4 Star General: I guess I may not have a refurb after all

Unless it's a brand new model (like the 9650), it's safe to assume that they are all refurbs.
