My partner and I want to upgrade our phones to a new PDA. I have the Tour and I love it. His only concern is that, in our business we will need to use Handheld Contact to integrate with a program called ACT! and we are not sure that the tour will hold all of our contacts? How many contacts will the tour hold including email addresses any everything? We have over 3000 contacts in our ACT! database. Thanks!!

At first, I was going to reply saying that memory on your phone would be the only limiting factor as to how many contacts you could hold. Then I saw 3000 and started wondering if the native contact list can handle that many. Someone with some experience is going to have to answer that question.

I just did a google search on how many contacts can a blackberry hold and it came up with a bunch of results. you should go through them.

From what I saw right off the bat, the only thing that would limit the amount of contacts would be how much memory you have. According to one of the search results, it said a curve with 10-30 megs free would hold up to 120k contacts without a problem.

Do a little googling and you'll find your answer.

Ok, So if my Tour shows about 100 MB free device memory that would be about how many contacts? And when I say contact I am including multiple phone numbers and email addresses.

simple math says 400,000 to 1.2 million given that formula, if it holds true.

I am interested in this as well....but I have to wonder, if there were that many contacts on your BB, how would the phones performance be affected??

You can only assume that after a point the performance will start to decline when accessing your contacts and/or trying to send an e-mail and having the device go through the contacts for matches.

However as long as you have available memory, I would think the other applications on the phone would perform fine.

Best thing to do is, Just Add them and see what happens. If it takes them, it does. If it doesnt, you have your answer....id have them loaded up by now.

It looks like a separate app on your phone so you are not using the blackberry address book or calendar.

    Mobile data storage
Store up to 2500 ACT! contacts directly on your BlackBerry
depending on device model and storage space available

I have 1020 contacts in my Address Book, many with multiple numbers and addresses. My Address Book database is 237.6k. That's about 4 contacts/k, which is the basis for the 30M=120k contacts number in the post above. Contacts in the native database just don't take up much space. Using a 3rd party contact manager may change the equation a little, but probably not drastically.

Thanks for all the replies!! Our ACT! database syncs with Outlook which is the email program we use. I hope this will put my partner at ease and keep him from preferring me to use an HTC touch pro 2 or an Android!! I love my Tour and I hope he buys me a second one for work use!! I think he is going to leave the phone choice up to me and then it will be easy!! BB Tour all the way!

I would hate to have more than 300 Contacts on any Windows Mobile phone.

There are different versions of Handheld Contact

The Professional Edition is limited to 3000 contacts
The Basic and Entry can both support up to 15,000 contacts

Please feel free to let me know if you have any other questions

I have 1300 contacts on my Tour and it works fine. Getting 3000 or above, I have no idea. My gmail screwed up once and multiplies my contacts to 7000 and the Tour came to a screeching halt.

Shouldn't have any issues. Contacts don't take up much like they did on the old flip phones where you'd run out of space.
