help the n00b!

tried this a number of times, but im either too noobish to understand what to do, or maybe something is wrong with my bb..
got a verizon 9630 last night, not sure if its unlocked but im assuming it since i can use my att sim card in it.
i updated the OS to 5.0.0.975 about an hour ago.
here is it what is going on: i have the desktop manager running in the background, i try to open crackutil, and it prompts me for a password, since i have no password i leave it blank..it gives me one of 2 messages.."file access denied" or "incorrect password of phone not connected. restart program."
what am i doing wrong?
(i live in the US btw if that matters)

Yes what are you trying to do and also you can try BBSAK as an alternative but let us knowwhat you want to do and we can try and help you.
