HELP My Droid in Shop, Using BB Tour, NO Internet??
Hi,
I have an old BB Tour 9630 that I needed to activate on Verizon while my Droid 2 is being shipped to Motorola due to excessive replacement devices (Verizon had told me more than once, the Android phones are "disposable", not meant to last a full 2 year contract).
I got my Droid 2 in September 2010 because I had issues with the Tour's trackball and phone signal (dropped calls a lot). Anyway after 4 Tours in 5 months, I finally got Verizon to allow me to switch devices and chose a Droid 2, which I love-after a big learning curve.
The Droid worked perfectly until Nov 2011 and then the same issue, calls dropping all over town and power cycling. So I'm on my 4th Droid 2, first one was brand new, the rest refurbished.
So I wanted to see what Motorola had to say about the disposable phone comment and I emailed them to ask. They weren't happy and asked me to send the device to them ASAP so they could see what was really going on. Basically a phone issue or a problem with my account.
Verizon isn't happy with me as it took an FCC complaint to get a new phone after the faulty Tour.
OK so now I had to switch service over to my last BB Tour which worked OK, spotty but good enough for 3-4 days. Last night when I did the *228 and got the Tour service working I was able to call but no internet?
I let it run an update and had already updated on my PC with BB Desktop Software prior to the switch.
But I cannot get to the internet for the life of me even though I did get my Gmail set up and received a few emails right after I activated the Tour. Now it's been 10 hours and I still can't get to the internet and no new emails are coming in or out.
What settings do you use for the Mobile Network?? When I saw 1XEV vs. 3G as my only option when I select Network Selection Mode: Automatic and Network Technology Global.
If I want 3G, I have to select GSM/ UMTS but that ends up showing AT&T as the proviider and there is no service (which I get Verizon is CDMA).
What should I set this to in order to get internet via my Verizon plan? I can't believe I used BB's for so many years and now I can't recall a simple thing like how to set up the internet connection!
Maybe my memory is really shot but I could swear the Tour was able to get a 3G connection? Maybe it's not and on the Droid, the 1XEV only appears when your signal is crappy and you can't get a good 3G signal. I could be confusing the 2 devices.
Anyway, sorry for the life story, just want to make sure you get why I'm using a Blackberry that wasn't working as well as it should if I have an android phone.
I just need to get the connection up and running again because the only other device I have is my Curve 8330 and I haven't turned that on in 4 years-lol. Best darn phone I ever had though!
Thanks SO MUCh for any help with my settings!! - 05-07-2012, 08:25 AM #2
Blackberries need at least a BIS plan, do you have one? Did they switch you to one for the time being?
1XEV = 3G even if the problem phone doesn't say 3G.Sent from me using my fingers. Be pantless in 5K. Febreze - for more than smells.

BB Tour - internet pages never finish loading
What was the fix for this problem? I've had my Tour for a couple of years and have an unlimited data plan. Have been able to use internet fine until the last couple of weeks - when I click on a link or try to search, the page address appears but the screen stays white and shows the page is still Loading - perpetually. It never loads. I have pulled the battery a few times but it doesn't help. Haven't gone to Verizon yet.
