Help! Contacts Are Disappearing

I purchased an unlocked Tour and I love the phone but I'm having major problems with my contacts. I upgraded from a Curve and restored the Curve data file to the Tour but not all of my contacts are on the phone. Its odd because my speed dial numbers are there and show the name and number when I hit the appropriate speed dial key. They don't show up, however, when I try to enter the name or phone number directly.

Also, when I add new contacts to the address book they disappear when I try to find them later.

What is going on????

BTW, I know the phone is unlocked because I took it out of the country and used a sim card on a GSM network (I'm on Sprint - CDMA/no sim card) and it worked great.
