| | going from Storm to Tour, some say its a step backwards?
I guess you can say I have some retarded friends I hang out with. Make a long story short, most of them have Iphones, and that sprint Instint phone thats out, and of course theres me for now that has the Storm.
I was talking to them today how I'm done with touch screens and how nice it would be to get a nice full keyboard like the Tour thats coming next month. They kind of all look at me and say "why would you do that?" I said it would be so much easier to type on, plus they look a lot better in my opinion. All of them agreed that going from a touch screen to a keyboard phone is taking a step backwards in the world. They say most phones are going into touch screens and that keyboard phones are like old school phones anymore.... see, I told you they were retards huh?
why do people think that going from touch screens to keyboards is a step backwards??? I guess I dont understand the logic, whats your opinions on going from a touch screen storm to the Tour?

It all depends on the individuals wants/needs IMO..
Touchscreen is very cool technology but right now its not for me..
But going backwards no I don't think so there will always be those like me who don't want a touch phone.

Technologically speaking, it is a step backward.

Not to be an *******, But are you / your friends, young?

Your personal preference aside, you are telling me that a touch screen isn't newer technology? I'm 38, btw.

doesn't make them better though IMO
its all personal preference the tour is going to be a great device hands down...
if they think your corny let them..

the instinct is a joke of a phone to mention.

| | Are they using it?
I would ask yourself are they using it or are you using it? Who cares if they think it is a step back. It is all about a users preference. CDMA is a much better technology than GSM yet since the iPhone is GSM your friends stay on that old and outdated technology that AT&T sells. The iPhone is great no doubt but I guess for me I prefer a device that works nearly everywhere as a phone then the other stuff is an added bonus. The Blackberry rocks for reception so just choose the style you like, because your friends will likely ask for yours when they have no reception and then you can say "I told you so!"

the instinct is a joke of a phone to mention. | The argument is not which one is better, because that can be debated forever. I'm just saying that a physical keyboard is a step backward, in terms of technology.

why is physical backwards?
I don't understand..
to me having no keyboard was not a step ahead to begin with... I found that out after 2 phones both the storm and the iPhone..
not having a physical keyboard slows you down period..
now touch + keyboard may be a step ahead..
but I don't think the "tour" just because it has a physical keyboard is a step backwards...
sorry..
anyone who states that can type as fast ona touch screen compared to someone that is super efficient with a keyboard is going to get left behind..
I am a extremely fast typer on a computer as well as my storm and formerly iPhone..
but frankly even being fast doesn't come close to what a person can do on a physical keyboard even myself
as a comparison..
I get about 40 wpm on my storm and break 60 with less mistakes on a regular keyboarded device...

Well consider this.. My buddy just called via his BB Storm. Sadly he had to use his voice dialing feature because his touchscreen failed completely. He couldn't text, call, navigate his phone at all. So in my opinion the physical keyboard is without a doubt better. He was mad as h*ll and screwed because his phone was close to useless.. I will never get a touchscreen only, I will always want the keypad.. Newer isn't always better, tried and true is the way to go |

Touchscreens have been out for awhile, I'd say if it is a more advanced operating system then it is a step forward.

In my lifetime I have experienced some of the most tecnologically complex navigational eguipment and some of the simplest as well. In aircraft the last resort nav equipment is typically the least technical equipment aboard. So "Advanced" is not always better using your reasoning. Think about it.. You will be putting your life on the line with a simple compass because your Laser Ref nav system failed because of an electrical failure. |

there will always be people who want the physical querty keyboard. Let me give you an example. On the bold, there are some people who can start taking notes on something without even looking at their phone typing 60 words per minute. People can't do that on a touch screen device. you have to look as you type. That means it hinders you in doing a lot of stuff, especially feel wise since you can't actually feel the keys.

the instinct is a joke of a phone to mention. | I agree with you. its crazy how people think touch screens are so top of the line, when in fact now that I've owned touch screens, I can't stand em. To me, I think getting the Tour will be a step a head again, but some people are weird and think its a step backwards.
(and the comment about the Instinct being a joke, I couldnt agree with you more, but of course the guys who own them think there king kong with those phones and trully believe they have the best phone on the market) lol
