    Got my replacement today. The trackball feels like rubber with a little more play in it kinda like the older style trackballs. Why is that? Also the only difference physically is the number behind the battery door says ck3909 instead of ck3009(?) Any ideas?

    I've seen several that have a rubbery-feeling trackball, perhaps to better grip the roller mechanisms and improve tracking.

    My 8900 has one. Its tracks well but is harder to roll. I like my tour's much better.

    My friend has a Tour with the trackball you exained. He is still on his original Tour, but it did seem harder to roll. He's used to it though.
