People who think this is some sort of conspiracy need to look at the history of Verizon. They have never limited pre-orders to only new customers. They give existing customers incentives like NE2, VIP, etc..
According to my resources, it should be up tomorrow. Now those resources yesterday said that it should be fixed by today. Anyone who works with technology knows things can get delayed. I would just be patient.. Verizon is trying to fix it.

My question is where is Kevin in all of this? As this seems to be a pretty hot thread as all of us current customers (myself included) are so vocal about this, can he get a definite answer on this and post the results on the front page? Does he have contacts in Big Red that are willing to go on record and say for sure that VZW is really working on the issue what ever it is. This could be seen as a sign of good faith to it's current customers that are dying to get their hands on this device.
I have been a Crackberry troll for a long time, even before I got my first berry and have found it a wealth of great information on all things RIM. As my level of excitement has grown for this berry my level of frustration with VZW has as well. I keep getting different information from my local store and from the website. There is no clear sense of unity from Big Red on this one. If there are limited quantities say it, if there are problems with your website say it, if there is something else that is an issue say it. Honesty is the best policy, and nothing good comes from leading people astray.
The biggest issue that I have seen growing in this thread is the fact that current customers are feeling alienated. This is how the problems with Sprint started, there could be a huge lesson that Verizon could learn here. If they were to come out and tell us offically what the problem is maybe we could help them with a solution or quielty allow them to find an answer without flooding their Customer Service or Stores with questions.
Bottom line here I expected a lot more from Verizon and I just want my Tour. I have waited along time with a substandard 8703e for a better device to come along. If I am going to be kept in the dark on Verizon's roll out, pricing, or availability I will just see what Sprint will offer me and debate weather Verizon needs my business anymore. Not that I want to leave, but Sprint as of late seems to have a new focus on Customer Service. If I can find the level service that I am seeking somewhere else so be it. I just want official answers and right now there aren't any..... and that is a problem!

I didn't mean to come off as snappy as I did in my previous post. I had been working on a judicial document all day and that style of writing translated to my response on crackberry (one of the many sites I visit to break up the monotony of the day). I should also say that I do not typically stand up for corporations, especially phone and cable companies. But I think the mentality growing out of the excitement and anticipation for this phone, nurtured by the mob mentality present on online communities, has taken a turn for the worse. The forums are getting littered with complaints, people harassing the csr's, trying to reveal the conspiracy against loyal customers. A lot of the threads that have spawned as of late are not a good representation of the Crackberry community.
Part of the problem is that we see all these other members of the forum and assume that we're a representative sample of the population. But that is not the case. Even if everybody on the Tour forums were to successfully pre-order a Tour right now, there would still be plenty left over. Verizon is a huge company servicing most of the United States. Our forum represents a miniscule subset of Verizon's clientele. Somebody made the analogy of losing your favorite table in a restaurant to a new customer. That analogy fails because the use of the table precludes any other customer from using it. But the fact of the matter is that there will be plenty of 9630's and not as much demand as most people think.
Anyways, here's how I see it... First of all benefits allocated to new customers are not indicative of prejudice against current customers. In fact, signing on new customers is a benefit to current customers. Your monthly bill is not enough to pay Verizon's employees, the support for the network, and cost of expansion. Signing on new customers improves Verizon's service for everyone. Benefits awarded to attract new customers just makes sense. Secondly, new customers aren't really being given preferential treatment. Everyone will be able to pre-order the phone, or you can just order it online once it is available, or go to the store and buy it. Either way, everybody will get their phone. Just because some people have the satisfaction of knowing that their pre-order is filed doesn't mean that you've been deprived of anything.
With all of that said, I'm also extremely anxious for this phone to come out. I check the forums and vzw.com a few times a day to see if the pre-order option is available. But we shouldn't let our excitement for this phone turn this forum into a mess... this isn't the storm forum |

But on the internet, ranting is inevitable.

New customers are being allowed to order. Existing customers are not. This is preferential treatment. Ancillary benefits don't change this.
You seem to be fine with this arrangements. Others are not.
Verizon is hedging customers contractual obligation against increased revenue. If most customers aren't willing to pay an ETF, they win.

Odd, but at this stage a minor inconvenience...If its that big a deal, simply walk into a store on the 12th and buy one.

This thread is filled with a bunch of 12 year olds.
Quit the whining about not being able to pre-order because your a current customer. Your not getting the phone until the 13th anyway what difference does it make if you have to wait till the 12th to order it?
You will still get the phone via next day delivery.
People need to stand down and relax : )
If they don't get the site up tommorow who cares order it the next day. If its not up until next week you will still get the phone.
Chill out in here EVERYONE will get their Tour.
Getting a statement from Kevin if they are working to fix the issue? Lol.....come on now.

| | Official Word: Pre-orders will be made available
Hello All,
I submitted a request for information on upgrading my phone via pre-order, here is the official response I received from verizon via email today:
"Good morning. I apologize for the delayed response. I am sorry for the confusion. I would be happy to assist you with preordering the new Blackberry Tour.
Unfortunately, at this time there is an issue with existing customers attempting to upgrade and pre-order the Blackberry Tour. At this time, only new activations and add-a-lines are able to pre-order. It is estimated that upgrades will be available by Thurs., 7/2"
So check back over the next couple of days.

Guess who just called?
I was sitting here reading all this and simultaneously trying to work my way into an existing customer pre-order when my home phone rang.
It was Andrea from Verizon, I talked to her yesterday morning when I called them trying to find out why I couldnt pre-order and if she could do it for me.
She called to apologize that when I called yesterday she had no idea what was going on and that existing customers couldnt upgrade. She said that they hadnt been told about any of that and that she was embarrased for not knowing and being able to help me.
She also said she was calling to apologize that I couldnt pre-order the Tour and that she has a memo that was given to them and it states that they are working on the problem. She says the memo says that they 'estimate' that existing customers should be able to order the phone tomorrow, but that it is just an 'estimate'. She suggests that I try to pre-order tomorrow and keep trying it because the expect the site to work within the next day or so.
Thats what a rep called and told me- NO FABRICATIONS.
Here's hoping the dawn of tomorrow brings us all better luck. | | | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode | | | |
