Man up, its easy and almost risk free to update. you can do it, and you shouldn't avoid it. even if you wait till fall there is bound to be an update after 5.0 is out.
my down fall with updating is my macbook. yes i know i can download windows, but why would i do that to my mac? yea there is another pc at home, but it is slow and not even worth trying to do an update. i'll just have to let my verizon rep do it for me. or buy a little crappy pc.

Sorry for the probably amateur question, but I am very new to all of the BB stuff. You guys are talking about upgrading when 5.0 comes out b/c It will probably get released with 4.7, so is that like an iPhone (my friend has one) where you will just download an update from online that will update your OS to 5.0, or in the fall will VZW just start selling the Tour with 5.0. If that is too confusing, I am trying to ask- can you download the 5.0 OS update strait to the BB Tour or what??

Just like with the IPhone you can update your blackberries.

    Specifically speaking about the TOUR:

Its going to come out with OS v4.7.1.38 on VERIZON, which at some point you will be able to upgrade to a v5.0.0.XX

There is a program that BB uses called Desktop Manager to do such updates.

You can also update your phone through application loader.

    Hope this helps you.

Thank you very much, this all makes so much more sense. This will be my first BB so I am trying to figure these things out.

One other thing, when you say upgrade, do you mean upgrade as in pay for it or just download an update as you would on say a desktop or something like that?

You don't pay for a OS upgrade. You'll have to do it from your desktop, using your BB Desktop Manager.
