    Is 1xev = to 3g?

On a sprint tour running 4.7.0.57?

My understanding is if it is 1XEV that is 3G but in lower case it is more like Edge. Please correct if I am wrong.

The 5.0 OS changes it from 1XEV to 3G. Your friend probably downloaded 5.0, while you're still on 4.7.

Sprint phones say 1XEV and on Verizon it says 3g, they are one and the same.

Well thank you all for your help. I will wait for 5.0 to come out or not who knows.

While 1XEV and 3G is similar in terms of speed, i think the major difference (and for some is no big deal) is that on 1XEV (which is for cdma) you cannot use voice and data simultaneously as on 3G (gsm) you can. Other than that, pretty much the same.
