| | Can we conclude no wifi?
After a bit more thought and putting my hopes and dreams aside, I don't believe the niagara will be wifi enabled. Everything points against it.
1. Its a cdma device. No cdma blackberry has ever been wifi enabled.
2. There is a member on thhis forum with one who says no wifi.
3. It ends in 30. I could be wrong but all the wifi devices ended in 00 or 20.
I realize that this is all circumstancial, and that no one knows until it is officially released, but what hope do we have of wifi?

The day the press release goes out is the day we will know for sure. Until that day, why worry about it?
It is entirely in the hands of the carriers.

Kevin has a pre-release version and it does NOT have wifi, unfortunately.

Question to Crucial, was the device you were using a really, really early device? I thought the decision on wi-fi was left up to the carrier. If so then why does the one Kevin has (which is unbranded) not have wi-fi? Does this mean RIM made the decision to take it out??

It was in early production so they just put all these features in it.
RIM might or might not have made that decision. Verizon (most likely the main carrier) said no Wi-Fi, but there still could be testing going on for the device.

It is realistic to assume that this phone does not have wifi. Who would've thought that the storm didn't have wifi when it was initially announced as "Blackberry's first touch screen" device...and yet we know how it went...

Well according to Kevin and his review there is currently no wifi in the model he was testing.

Is Wi-Fi really THAT important?
I mean if you have a data plan you don't really need wi-fi. What did we do before phones got the Wi-Fi built into them? Just a thought, I can see where some of you are coming from though, yes, it is nice to have that little extra feature. I will be sticking to my 8900 thanks

While I'm with the majority in believing that it does not have wi-fi @ this particular time. It will be interesting to see what happens between now and launch time. Either way it seems like a really nice device.

Nevermind the fact that there has NEVER been a CDMA blackberry from ANY carrier, nor the fact that Verizon offers wifi on winmo devices, nor the fact that Verizon requires a data plan on all smartphones including blackberries anyway, but even with the pre-released, unbranded 9630's not having wifi, we still have people saying, "Verizon said no wifi". So, I see, it's not a RIM limitation, it's bad bad Verizon saying no to another blackberry with wifi, but yes to other smartphones with wifi? And big bad Verizon said no to wifi, even on pre-released, unbranded blackberries, and Verizon makes this decision for EVERY CDMA carrier out there? Haha

It is possible that they are testing devices with and without wifi. I think we won't know for sure till the device officially get announced and/or released. If you read all of the pre-release info on the device, it does not mention wifi. I thinking no wifi, but I hope to be pleasantly surprised when it comes out with wifi. (and NO I won't hold my breath)

Leave it to Verizon to take all the good features away. Another reason they will make you buy a data plan.
