- I noticed the battery doesn't last too long on the Tour. Thought about getting the 1600, but heard they are working on a 2600, might wait on that. You guys have the same issue?08-12-09 02:40 PMLike 0
- The 1600 is very good. The 2600 is going to require you to use the extended door that comes with it since it is a very bulky battery. You have to decide it you want the same form fator or a much longer battery life. I have the 1600 and it is working out great because now I have a spare battery.08-12-09 02:59 PMLike 0
- yeah, ratcheting down screen brightness, auto-dim, turning off bluetooth (since i don't use it), turning on GPS until you need it . . . and of course being somewhere where there's a strong signal08-12-09 03:56 PMLike 0
- My battery lasts from 6 30 am to about 6 pm where I start getting low batt warnings. I have bt off and gps off unless I am using it. My older bb's made it much longer. I realize there is a trade off with better screen etc. But it is a little disconcerning that I lose my phone on the ride home everyday. Yes I do have a car charger but its difficult to speak or use the phone when its plugged in.
I will give the the 1600 a shot and hope it helps. I really don't want the 2600 messing with form factor but I will do what I have to to have a useable bb for a whole day.

When I leave it charging all night(6-8hrs) it will last me almost twice as long. I think they can be over charged and I make a habit of running them down completely and then charging them. I feel like I get only slightly less time with this phone than I did with my 8330.08-12-09 07:08 PMLike 0
- jeffhRetired ModeratorYou can't overcharge a BlackBerry battery. Leaving it on charge overnight is a good practice which won't hurt it. Frequent recharging is also good. You should not deplete a Li-Ion battery to zero. That actually shortens its life.

I leave mine to 911 unless/until I use google maps and I get great battery life (screen @70) but I'm wondering if I could actually just leave GPS on if google maps is not running? Will it adverse affect battery life if the phone is just idle?

Every batter I have had has battery memory whether people say it doesn't or not. I don't believe anyone when they say it doesn't because the second I start charging a bat after it is only half dead I start losing battery charge.
And why is it bad to run it down? I always thought that was the thing to do.
I am not trying to be a smartass but there has to be something to charging it passed the time it says it is fully charged because I have noticed a big difference from when I just charge it the 2 hours vs the 8 hours over night.08-12-09 07:19 PMLike 0 - jeffhRetired ModeratorPeriodically discharging a battery was recommended for older batteries, but not Lithium Ion batteries. They don't have the memory effect that previous battery technologies had. Discharging a Li-Ion battery until it shuts down actually shortens its life and does not enhance its ability to take a charge.
Your BlackBerry has an overcharging protection circuit that won't allow you to harmfully overcharge your battery. If you leave it on charge overnight, it will be trickle charged as needed all night long and will be fully charged when you start your day. If you charge it just until the indicator stops showing charging, then turn it off and unplug it from the charger, you will use battery power for the rest of the night. A BlackBerry is never fully off unless you remove the battery. You can easily prove that. Set an alarm for 10 minutes from the time you read this note, then turn off your BlackBerry. In ten minutes it will turn on and alarm. It continued running with the screen and the radio off, but it was running and using battery power. That's why leaving it on the charger all night long helps. You're starting your day with a full charge.08-12-09 08:06 PMLike 0 - lithium ion batteries, whi almost al cell phones us, don't have a battery memory....but, you still want to le them go down before recharging. Every charging session does wear down the cell walls, so the fewer charging sessions the longer the battery will go before wearing down. so charging when low to full as a habit compared to charging once it goes down a bar will let it go longer before you'llsee a dip in performance.08-13-09 08:10 PMLike 0
- Battery life of my tour takes a toll during phone calls (no bt) that last 30+ min. Also, when the batt life hits 30% it drains much faster and changing the settings, standbye mode, and holstering it don't seem to slow the drain at that point.
