This must definitely be a noob question. Nonetheless, every time I go to type a number off a business card into by Tour, it's disconcerting that there's no dash or space automatically put in. I know it sounds ridiculous, but when there are several repeated digits in a row, you can't quickly tell how many you've typed already without the dash/space.

Someone must know how to do this!

um... why is this needed? You can't tell the difference between 5551212 and 8675309?

It's more like it's tough to tell the difference between 6172333910 and 61723333910, especially if you're walking or in a hurry. Or if you've been on call for the past 23 hours.

It's a little hard for people to read one continuous long number. Studies have shown that we can read numbers with much greater accuracy in groups of 3.

    It's far easier and quicker to understand "100 000 000" than "100000000"
That's why most numbers are broken up with spaces or commas.
We even say and understand most numbers in groups of 3 or 4.

653-589-6521 is, in fact, a lot clearer than 6535896521

This is a feature that most other phones offer and is surprising that BlackBerry lacks this.

It is really easy to press Shift + I for the dash if you want them.

I believe the OP is referring to adding spaces/dashes to phone numbers as he's dialing, not as he's entering numbers into his Address Book. Typing Alt-I while dialing will ultimately connect him to the wrong phone number.

Exactly. It would be ideal if the phone could automatically add spaces/dashes, or even if I could use the space bar or dash key. The latter two suggestions, though, result in the input mode switching over to text input.

We can't be the only ones who find this troublesome. Any thoughts?

Not that I know of, sadly. I gotta say, RIM's not the best at the UI stuff, especially with regards to number entry.

Another little thing that always bothered me is that when you dial a number to enter it to the phonebook, it places it in the Work space.. when honestly, it should be going in mobile.

    But anyways, yea. Sorry.
