9630 help

So here is the deal, my friend upgraded to a iphone and gave me his verizon bb-9630. I got it unlocked and did a no contract plan with att. Thing is i don't have a data plan so i was not expecting to have access to the internet, i took the unlimited plan and for some reason i can't send or recieve pics. Is there something i could do or must i have a data plan and why is my friends verizon number still shows up when a call comes in or out?
