I haven't gotten it yet and I didn't think about that it would not have a media card since it's a replacement. The 9850 was the only time I've ordered online instead of getting it at the VZW store, and the card was already installed. I was thinking "new" vs. replacement.
Good point... and I assume it will be a VZW refurb since most have mentioned that is what they got.
Thanks!BB Torch 9850 (waiting for Q10),

Mine was not using the dock. Straight up wall charger from my BB storm 2. So no funky usb cable and adapter.

I joined the Bricked-Club 5 days ago

Very frustrating! I hadn't even heard of this problem before during 6 years of being a BlackBerry user. Never had any issues or problems with any BB device, including a Playbook.
After 5 days of failure, it is looking like the only option available is to convince VodafoneUK to give me a replacement. Not looking forward to that phonecall!
As a last ditched cry for help I ask anyone who has beaten this curse to give me ideas.
The details:
BlackBerry Torch 9860 (Yes, the JM1 Battery!)
It is bricked, not nuked. Black screen only.
Battery drained, now stuck in constant reboot cycle, unable to charge.
Stuck at "Reconnecting to JVM" in AppLoader.
Red light is 10 secs on 10 secs off.
BlackBerry Device Manager reports a maximum connection to PC time of 11 secs before reboot.
Bought 2 new OEM batteries, no change.
Some people have said that after many many clicks of Retry the OS update eventually worked. I wonder how true this is.
Tried every tip available so far.
In November RIM admitted this problem existed and said they would issue a software fix.
Apparently .540 prevents this problem occuring, but thats no use when you cant update your OS! Have tried original stock OS, .440 and .540.
Anyone?
ETA: If JL_Cmder or BBSAK could prevent the BB from Rebooting, like Apploader does until it tells the BB to reboot, surely then we could completely wipe the BB thus removing the offending OS. Or is it, like some have found in years past, some rogue setting in the BB that can only be cleared by resetting its CMOS?Last edited by CiderGuru; 12-07-2011 at 04:20 PM.

Do you know how to run the loader file to install? If so use loader /nojvm to start the process.

Have you tired? It certainly won't hurt as it is worthless as is.

Any room in this club for me...? Just happened to me today, too. I love this phone when it works... I'm a fan of the BB brand to the point where I'm looked at sideways for telling people that I got a new blackberry on my contract renewal, but these guys are testing my patience. Hope they find a fix soon that Verizon approves. Talking to the Tech Support rep, it seemed as if she already knew what i was about to say when I told her what phone I was calling about... C'mon RIM, find a fix, already!

The resolution to this problem was already discussed in another post. The new BB 7 device chargers are different. You need to use the charger that came with your phone or plug it into a computer. I don't understand all the technical stuff about it but they say the older phone chargers don't have enough power.

Haven't had any critical issues here except the phone rebooting by itself only once (that I know of). I did have it replaced the first week I got it......I bricked it trying to install a leaked os.
BB then, now, forever...yeah, I said it. - 12-17-2011, 05:00 AM #94

I can confirm that a friend fixed her bricked 9850 with the new 7.1 sprint build. So for those of you with a bricked device, I would try this. Good luck

Edit: False alarm, I guess she got the 9850 to connect to JVM but it didn't go all the way through. Sorry guys

I suppose the problem I had this morning is the same one everyone is complaining about here. Who knows, any way I pulled my battery out, put it back in, and plugged up the charger when the light surrounding the track pad came on. My berry booted just fine. Mind you it was completely DEAD before i plugged it up last night. Best practice, don't let te battery drain till it turns your device off on its own.
