    Default What are these?

    Hello future 50-60 owners.

I was checking the FCC file about the 9860 and found the picture that you'll see below. If you notice, there seem to be some contacts or antennas or who knows what on the backplate of the device.

I was wondering if anyone knows what those are?

EDIT: Forgot to add, here is the official User Manual:

It looks like a dummy phone, or a fake. Which ever it is. Or it can be a bootleg phone. The original has the same back case as the 9900 and 9810, so none of those should be visible on the actual phone. We'll have to find out on the release though.

Thats what people assumed because the software the pre-release devices had installed didn't show NFC in the manage connections

BUT, I do remember someone taking apart the phone and seeing what looked to be NFC antennas and this photo helps that case a lot.

It would seem that the hardware is there, but the software just hasn't activated it yet.

    Hope that is the case!

This. Also I read that RIM was going to release an update in the future that "activates" the NFC feature on the phone. Can't remember where I read that though :/

Anyone know if we can have someone from RIM or something CONFIRM the NFC? All the pictures seem to point to the fact that it has the hardware, and the only evidence we have that there is NO nfc is by people with pre-release software saying its not in the manage connections menu.

But, I would like some peace of mind to know that the hardware is for sure there and just needs to be activated by a software update.

Again, BBOS 7.0 doesn't have NFC software but 7.1 does. If /when the phone gets updated to 7.1, the NFC will be available.

Plus, the hardware has to be confirmed. Even if the OS is 7.1 or 7.0 or whatever, it still needs the hardware which has yet to be completely confirmed.

ALTHOUGH, I did find some promising sources saying NFC is there:
