verizon 9850 updating problems

Hello all, so I've been trying to update a friends 9850 with no luck... The only two OS's that the phone will recognize are the two officials from verizon. 1 being 7.0 and the other 7.1.0.0.163. Every other OS that has been installed on the computer and I mean every other one will not be recognized by the phone or the desktop software. I've even tried completely wiping the phone to the 507 error. Any ideas folks as to what we could be doing wrong?

Have you deleted the vendor xrl file. Some have had two file to delete.
Also make sure the OS is for the 9850 & not the 9860.

yep, I've deleted at least one vendor file. Cannot find any others, are they hidden somehow?

Yes there is 2. Make sure you set the computer to show hidden files .
go control panel, appearance and personalization, folder options, then view tab, and select show hidden files, folders, or drives.
