Typing really bad, stuck keys, anyone?
Is it just me or has anyone experienced weird behaviour with the keyboard?
- Pressing a key and 2 to 3 letters are typed
- You press a key as you're typing a word and it will not register as a keystroke
- The space bar seems stuck.
- Your typing just seems really bad all of a sudden
So has my typing just gotten really bad or is anyone else seeing these weird things happening? - 05-02-2012, 01:06 AM

Well at least I'm not alone. I guess no one else is experiencing this.

Yep..this sometimes happened if i type to fast. Try to set your Key Rate: Fast (keyboard setting), Double Tap Interval: 500(touchscreen sensitivity).
These are the settings that i use now and it gives me a better direct typing experience.Thanked by 4:big_time2 (05-20-2012), DaedalusIcarusHelios (05-14-2012), jegs2 (05-20-2012), Undenied (05-03-2012)

Same here! This just started happening recently with me too. When I type a word, sometimes i'll get multiple letters. For example if I typed the word today, i'll get tttttoday or was turns into wwwwwas. Kind of annoying but I thought it was just me.
Guess I need to slow down my typing as it doesn't happen when I type slower.

It looks like I am a member of this club too. Artificially repeated key strokes and a stuck space bar. It has gotten a bit better a week into this update, and I will try the settings posted above to see if I can get improved performance. This is really my only complaint (but a pretty big one) about my Torch.
All of those BB 10 clips this week have me ready to drop some cash on the new BB when it is released. - 05-02-2012, 11:33 PM

I'm now more inclined to downgrade to an OS version where the typing was so much better. My fingers used to fly on the keys with almost perfect precision but now this is irritating.
And the backspace button also gets stuck too. As I try to backspace I'm looking at the key as I press it repeatedly and it won't highlight. I am not amused :| - 05-02-2012, 11:52 PM #11
I haven't noticed any difference in any of the keyboards on the 9860 with any of the OS 7.1 variations (aside from the initial 7.1 release that rearranged it a bit).

I do not experience this for the most part. But sometimes (emphasis on sometimes) when I type while the phone is plugged it, typing is impossible. So is anything that has anything to do with the touchscreen. Sounds very similar to what you're describing.
I also get this symptom with my playbook sometimes.
When this happens, it's like the device is possessed. But it's only ever happened when plugged in. I think it has something to do with grounding differentials while plugged in. - 05-03-2012, 11:19 PM

I see a slight improvement but it still sometimes does thiiis. Thanks though.
For those of you who replied, do you have a screen protector on? Just curious if your Monaco is wearing protection. I'm starting to wonder if the oil from the fingers left on the screen protector is a factor in this. I wiped mine down real good and it was easier to scroll through pictures without it selecting multiple pictures when I didn't want to do that. But even still it's acting weird when I type.Last edited by Undenied; 05-03-2012 at 11:27 PM.

I use the screen protector. And while it's plugged in, yes, it's like the phone is possessed

Kinda hard to type but not always. Sometimes it's OK but other times it acting like the phone has its own will..
I do keep a fibre cloth in my wallet to wipe clean the screen and yeah, it helps with the screen sensitivity. - 05-04-2012, 04:12 PM #16
After thinking it was me since September, I finally got fed up and went to buy a new phone. The people at the store suggested that I send the phone away for warranty. I did, and when I got the phone back, they had replaced the whole screen. THE PHONE IS AWESOME NOW!! I can type like normal and the only problems are operator induced.
Before I sent it away, it would stutter an stumble and freeze up, now it's wonderful. I suggest you send yours away for warranty as well. You'll notice a huge difference. - 05-14-2012, 12:56 PM #20
I get the issue with the multiple keys registering on occasion. I just changed my keyboard and double-tap settings to see if it helps (thanks for the suggestion).
I've noticed now though that my back physical button is kind of stuck. It has very little give now, although it still works. I noticed that some of the clear coating is peeling off on it - not sure if it is possibly related. - 05-20-2012, 10:35 AM #21
One thing I like about my wife's HTC Droid phone is the tiny vibration I feel when you "click" a key on the virtual keyboard. Has anyone developed a third-party application that will emulate that on a BB Torch?

That would be nice but I'm sure that would most likely drain the battery, using power to make the phone vibrate. That was the one thing I loved about the first Evo.
Monaco's got "key tones" where you can hear a tiny *beep* every time you type a letter. I turn it on sometimes but I've never really sat down to count the beeps and see if they match with the keystrokes.
I uninstalled and reinstalled the OS and it seems a bit better. I don't know why but when attempting to press the spacebar and the "N" key with a word like "don't" just never seems to come out right. Maybe I'm handling the thing wrong. Maybe I'm too gentle with my finger presses.Last edited by Undenied; 05-20-2012 at 03:02 PM.
