I am trying to do a search for a tel number but cannot find a way to do it. The contacts' search function and the general search function seem to look only at the names but not at the body of the contact's record.
Can anybody help me with this?

I want to say that if I'm in the telephone keypad, once I start typing a number it will narrow down the choices from my contacts list. I would have thought that search would bring it up though.

Sorry, I did not express myself correctly. I want to search the contact list for something other than the name, could be the phone number or a word in the "notes" section...any way of doing that?

No, OP is right - searching for contacts by number doesn't work from Universal Search nor the phone app.

D'Oh! I stand corrected. Man that stinks. Really can't believe this isn't available though.

I also found that the 9860 "advanced search" won't search the contents of the MemoPad file, only the title of the items. This is very poor - My 4 yr old BB Bold did it just fine, but the same data moved to the new Torch, won't search the MemoPad contents. Help! As I have a lot of data in there that I need to search. Anyone know of an Android App that will work?
