    Default Screen keeps dimming

    He Guys,

My BB 9860 keeps dimming the screen most of the time after just a few seconds despite BacklightTimeout at 1 minute and Automatically Dim Backlight unchecked...

    Anybody know what to do?

Dunno man, this has always been an issues with BlackBerries, and a running joke that the screen dimmer will just do whatever it damn well pleases whenever it wants to. Maybe somebody who knows more than I do knows for sure.
Yes, we do have CrackBerries in Montana. Go Griz!!

Go into Options, Display, Screen Display. At the bottom of the screen, unclick 'Automatically dim backlight'. You will be much happier.

change to whatever screen/display settings , it just wont fix.

it might be an OS bug?

anyone on 7.1 (.402) experiencing this?

My 9810 had the option to not dim the backlight also. Are you sure your OS version doesn't have it?

    Default Screen keeps dimming

you mean un-check the auto dim option?

i have done that too, kept light out time to 2 mins, increased brightness to 100, nothing works !

Do people even read the original posts or what? He clearly said that he has already tried unchecking the "automatically dim back light" box, and it didn't remedy his problem.

Anyways...this seems like a somewhat common problem among BlackBerry phones, not limited to the 9850/60.

I notice the OP is using a pretty old OS, "7.0.0 bundle 2395 aka 7.0.0.579", I'd recommend updating to the latest official release and keep your fingers crossed that it helps. If it doesn't, I can't see any way to fix this other then getting a replacement phone. I've had my 9860 for about 5 months now and have never had this happen to me so it can't be an issue with every phone.

I dont think it is a problem related to the phone itself, my phone never had this problem until just now.

The only thing i don't remember is if it started straight after upgrading to .402.

its getting annoying now, cant read anything for more than few seconds, cant surf properly, cant play videos etc etc.

Won't fix this, it is a KNOWN BUG IN OS7.

    Did everyone hear that?

I've had two OS7 phones, a 9900 that I sold, and now the 9860, and neither experienced this problem. So it cannot be present in all OS7 phones, perhaps the best thing to do would be to return the phone for a replacement and hope for the best.

    Hey Guys,

Thanks for the feedback. Didn't know it was an issue with OS7, quite amazing..

My BB 9860 worked "fine" for the last 8 months, certainly no issues with dimming.
2 Weeks ago it developed BB error 102 while travelling to Hyderabad, Bhopa, Mumbai and Pune, not very convenient..!!

I tried the internet suggested revive methods (JL_Cmder) but that didn't work, re-installing myself was also impossible as it was stuck in the reboot loop and Desktop Manager would not connect at all.

In the end I ended up paying a BB shop to re-install the OS in 2 to 3 hours time (service center claimed to need 2 to 3 days).
Did loose 150 photos and all my texts + apps (the rest I got back through the BES activation & synchronisation).

When I have the device check for OS updates it tells me everything is up to date. How do I get onto a newer OS build then?

    Thanks in advance.

as someone who has owned blackberries for years; thanks for the obvious and useless advice.

the problem only seems to occur while im in bbm. almost as if the phone's power management sw doesn't know bbm is running.

Just wanted to chime in that I haven't had any problems with the auto-dim feature. I'm running .402 leaked. My settings for the dimming feature is set to 10 with the auto-dim clicked. I did notice that it takes about 5-8 seconds for the auto-dim to kick in. In a brightly lit room, I put my thumb over the sensor (top right corner where the LED is) and after 5-8 seconds, the screen dims. When I remove my thumb, the brightness gets bumped back up.

There's no problems on my end when I repeat the same process with the auto-dim unchecked.

In this situation you have to change your phone display setting. If you want more backlite than increase timing and and increase britness also. After doing this I think you don't has to face this problems again in your BB 9860.
