red blinking light
I notied whenever I place a call, the little light just nect to the LED starts bliking red very fast, I'd this normal

It's the proximity sensor so you don't face dial.

The proximity sensor blinks? Never noticed this on my 9930. I'll have to pay more attention.

I never even notice it unless the light and angle are right, that or I never pay attention.

As said before proximity sensor, It detects whether the phone needs to be unresponsive to touchscfreen input or take input.
You can try this, during a call cover up the sensor. If it works as it should your display should go dark.
