Default Please Help - Text Messages disappearing

I have only had my Torch9850 for a month.

It is the most updated software on it already and the only app I have installed is Twitter.

I noticed it was deleting my text messages - I literally do not even have messages that I sent only 2 days ago or received only 2 days ago from people. Sometimes they don't even last ONE entire day.

I checked the memory thing followed some articles to 'maximize free space' but I have over 90% free space on my memory card and on my device space (2.2 gb free) So I don't know why I would be having this problem.

I do not have a lot of apps running 'in the background' , only text messages and phone and sometimes twitter.

I followed RIM on twitter and they suggested the memory maximizing article which didn't help and then they suggested a clean "reload" which will delete my text messages that are left there and my one app I guess. I have all my browser stuff cleared already.

Honestly this phone is brand new and should have tons of space, it also claimed to work well with low memory so I don't know why I should be 'penny pinching' to get it to barely do something so simple and basic as keeping my text messages. Texting is my main source of communication and I need to have all these messages saved and kept forever (that setting is set too, btw) until I delete them so I can refer back to them for information.

Is this a common problem? I am afraid this is going to be a constant problem and I can't believe ANY phone these days can't do something so basic and simple like keeping text messages which makes it almost useless to me. I don't play games or anything on this either or download anythingn even ringtones. I like all the things this phone CLAIMS to do but it doesn't matter if it cannot do them.

    PLEASE HELP!!!!

Messages (text and emails) are not stored on your SD card ("memory card" or external storage) nor your device space (the "2.2 GB free" or internal storage). Messages are stored in your device memory (768 MB for the 9850/9860), which is shared with application space.

Just wanted to clear those up, but that said, let's check a few likely candidates to start off.

How many days are you set to keep messages for? The minimum is 15 days so it shouldn't affect you but let's eliminate the obvious stuff first.

Are you set to "Leave Messages on SIM Card"? To check, go Text Messages, Menu key, Options. SIM Cards have very limited space to store the volume of text messages these days. It sounds like a likely spot for us to check first. This option should be un-ticked so that messages are stored on your device instead of stored on the SIM card.

Next, ensure that your media (videos and pictures that you take on the phone) are not stored in your application memory. Ensure that these are saved on your external storage (SD card) or internal storage (your 2.2 GB). Otherwise, your application/device memory will fill up and will start deleting your messages to make space to operate - guaranteed. If this is the case, your pictures are stored in device/application memory, you will have to move them (yeah, probably one by one) to either one of your media storage spaces.

How much Free Memory do you have? Options, Device, Device and Status Information. If the number is low (say, 50 MB or less), it might be time for a battery pull. However, you won't gain back much if your pictures and videos are stored in memory instead of media storage.
