I've had mine now for a month and a half. I briefly had a 9810 but never used the keyboard so I traded up to a 9860. Reading through all of the forum posts about the 9860 had me concerned over all of the issues being reported but so far I'm very happy with this phone. I have had zero issues with it. The buttons all work and there has been no lagging/hour glassing and I have a ton of apps on it. Unlike my 9700 I have not needed to do any battery pulls either.

OS7 has been such a big improvement from OS5 on the 9700. This phone and BBtraffic are a great combination.

Only thing I wish it had was a good solution for a car mount.

just made the leap from a 9650 to the 9850 and i'm loving it so far. was worried about losing the physical keyboard but i'm adapting pretty well. like others i was pretty concerned with the multiple problems that have been mentioned, but the only time i've seen any lag at all has been inside of the app world. all the buttons work and i haven't experienced any freezing/lagging/non-responsive buttons.

You have to remember that most of the people that come to the forums come here because they have complaints or are looking for technical help with a device. A huge percentage of people not having any issues with a device will often never post and just browse. I wouldn't worry to much about the problems people are having with the 9850/9860 (of course its not impossible you could also have a problem arise!), it represents a small sample size overall.

    I'm with Alltel (non-divested).
I've been using a Droid the last 2 years (previously had a Tour) & I just didn't like them. Sure, they had alot of apps, but they seemed buggy. I called retentions & they offered me $100 off a Torch 9850 if i'd sign a 1 year contract, so I did. I ended up paying ~$172 for it. I was torn between it & a 9650. I hope I made a good decision.

I had the Electrify also, but didn't care for Android. I came back with the 9650. Also was hoping for the 9930, but after reading 19 pages of how much people love this,I'm going to pull the trigger.

I am going on about 3-4 months on BB 9850 from Verizon. The first two I got were brand new and both broke for various reasons. #3 seems to be the charm. Interesting note here is was a refurb! Virtually zero problems with this one ! A couple of quirks here and there but nothing get upset about.

I'm a new BB user. I had a personal iPhone 3gs and now have a corporate 9860. The IT guy said it was the closest to the iPhone.

Since I'm used to iOS, it there a way I can make the UI behave like iOS?

ie. non scrolling row of icons on the bottom and all the other apps on top - with swipe left to right scroll through the pages of apps.

I really hate the way all the apps are down and the top row gets hidden. I guess it's just what I'm used to. I had to go BB for corp email, so please be nice to the newbie :-)

Yes you can set it up like this. Depends how far you drag a screen down as to what shows on the bottom row or rows. You can also move icons around. The first thing I did populate my "Favorites" screen with the icons I use all the time. Then I moved them to show where I wanted them to show and bingo we are done.

I got my first Torch 9850 last summer. This is the first time I am writing any review about this device since I wanted to test it good. I am a Verizon Corporate user so this device is being used 24/7 and always on BES and IBM Sametime. Over all I am happy and not "so much" envious of wife using Moto Droid Razor. I love that touch screen is very responsive and typing is quite easy in both positions. I love the auto word suggest feature according to the subject you are typing. WiFi comes in handy. Look of the device is also not bad. Browsing the net is very easy and quality of pages is very clean and most websites adjust with no issues. I love the Camera and 720P Video feature which makes very good videos and pics. Overall this BB has made my life much easier. I use Sametime as a corporate IM so I can still be working while on the road and spend more time with kids.
Now lets talk about issues :-) Tomorrow I will be getting my 3rd replacement in 8 months. Every time issue was new. First time device started freezing too much and taking out battery was getting old. This was happening with very few apps running in the background. Second time it was that touch screen responded to me when ever she wanted to. Now this time the bottom buttons are giving up on me and not doing what they are suppose to and doing what they are not suppose to.
App store is decent so not too much to complain there. More and more apps are showing up but major content providers like Netflix, Hulu etc has given up on BB so that sucks. I know I know this is BB and it was designed for corporate use with best security which she has but us corporate users have feelings as well and when BB is on our hip all the time its only fair that we can get more use out of it.
This BB is only 3G which blows because you would think RIM would jump on the 4G capability because who else has better use for 4G than us corporate users where we are on calls all the time and at the same time need access to be able to send and receive emails and chat on IM and surf the net. So lack of 4G is a big no no. Good thing WiFi makes it as good as 4G BUT on the road that does not help and very inconvenient. Global feature is neat and I love it where you can use the device anywhere in the world where ever Verizon has contacts with carriers. Every now and than screen just gives up on me and I have to do the same restarted routine of battery in and out to bring it back to life. Surfing is very slow which is a pain but its acceptable.
Even with these issues I am happy and hope soon BB will be 4G and Global at the same time. Dual Core is must which this BB is NOT.

4g is still developing and you will rarely have any connectivity.

Changing from 2G,3G, 3GH+ and 4G will kill your phone.

About the device being sluggish, have you upgraded to 7.1.0.340 or .342?

It will make your phone very fast as I have almost the same amount of usage as you do guessing from what you wrote.

Default The official I got my 9850/9860 thread

Actually Verizon 4G has awsome coverage now and works great. I got wife a Droid Razor so when we started driving to KS from MD for Xmas vacation 4G was avail for the most part and we even activated 4G hotspot so all can use laptops while driving and I was quite impressed.
Yes I am on 7.1.0. on 457 but unfortunately did not notice any faster turnaround.
Still I am quite happy since device works great even on the go and I never feel disconnected while in transit keeping all clients happy and at the same time family is in touch all the time :-)

Smile Excellent phone very happy with it

My faithful Storm 2 9550 went out on me (still works but the screen dims and it wont go back. Before it my Storm 9500 also went out like a champ (water damage)
So I was here looking at the possibility of going to WIn7 phone or a horrid droid when this baby popped out at Craigslist for $150USD. I immediately jumped at it and I couldn't be happier honestly it is almost impossible to get it under $300USD.
The phone is in an immaculate condition, it looks brand new and the interface is super smooth maybe too sensitive as I come from the Storms. The phone is an unlocked ATT 9860 perfect as I have been with Tmobile for a while.
The lower edge network kicked like it was meant to be however I was unable to send pictures or receive them this was easily resolved by doing some googling and following very similar steps that I encountered while converting both my ol 9500 and 9550.
I used the steps and service books used to convert a 9930 and a 9850 to Tmobile found on this website. Hello again crackutl and BBM 5.0 haha
BlackBerry Service Books | BlackBerryUnlocking.US | BlackBerry Unlocking | Unlock BlackBerry | BlackBerry Unlock Code
SB Legacy Restore enabled with 4?2? at the service books screen
    changed the Apn
    and it made the trick
    Now It shows I have the 7.0 bundle 1950 (7.0.0440, Platform 5.0.0.610)
my question is will this be the most stable or are there faster updates out there? What would you guys recommend?
Also I have been reading around and have gotten various conflicting accounts on these phones not being able to fully handle 4g with tmobile can someone clarify this issue? I have bands 1,2,5&6 btw.
The only disadvantage is that I don't have internet (except wifi) even though I am paying $10 extra for it and in my companion's android it does work. Every time I access the browser it asks me to sign up for the Tmobile2go thing. I'm not very concerned with 4gs but will I at least be able to run on 3gs?
If not I am just planning to just get the Tmobile BB service and run with it, either way any advice or comments will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

I can't really comment on why you can use the internet or what not, most likely it has to do with the service plan you have currently. I can comment on a few other things though

    a) You definitely want to update to a newer OS. 7.0 was decent at launch, but the 7.1 updates offer a whole slew of new features and improvements to the phone. You get a slightly better keyboard layout, mobile hot spot, improved battery life, a BlackBerry device analyzer, battery saving mode, etc. You can browse the forums to update to the latest official release which I believe is .342, or the latest leak which is .402, both are solid.

    b) The 9860 is not capable of running at true 4G speeds. It runs on basically a "3.75g" speed called HSPA+. You will see an "H+" displayed on the phone when connected. It is a slightly slower connection then "LTE" (which is considered 4G), but generally provides less strain on the battery.
