Default Maps application not working...

On a 9850 I am having a issue with the "maps" application. I believe it is from Blackberry. When I open the app it will find my location but will not allow me to "find a location", "get directions" or enter "my favorites". These feature were working but now are not. Anyone have any ideas.

Battery pull did not work. Is there a way to re-install the BB-maps?

I want to help, but I need information.

I'm assuming you're selecting those options from menu.

what happens then? Nothing? Does it go to the screen where you enter informatoin and then not let you enter it? does the keyboard not come up? does it let you enter information but not find it? Does it just revert back to the map?

Just a thought, but could this possibly be a GPS/hardware issue also?

If you're running 7.1, under options, run the device analyzer. Select the GPS option and see if your GPS is operable. I think that, even when your GPS is off, your location is triangulated from cell towers. That could be why it's only showing your location (just a thought.) Might help you narrow down the cause of the problem, if that works, it may be the maps software itself and not a hardware issue.

When opening "maps" it will find my location. When trying using either the menu or buttons on screen for "find a location", "get directions" or enter "my favorites" nothing is happening you can hover over the buttons on the screen and the pop ups come up but it will not go to what was selected. It was working before but now it is not. I downloaded the "LifeinPocket" and that app works fine.

Did a battery pull after turning off the GPS. Still nothing
Will run the Device analyzer when I get out of work in a few minutes. Location found
Will also try deleting the Lifeinpocket app and do a battery pull tonight. Deleted app and still not working

I will report status later tonight

Any other ideas?

very strange symptom you're experiencing. i'm not sure what to tell you.

If it were me, I'd delete the BB Maps application and then reinstall it. It would require doing it through DM. not sure if that's outside of your comfort level. it's not difficult to do, and not really risky, but if you've never done something like that before it could make you a little anxious.

If you need help with that, let us know. I wish I knew an easy fix, but I've tried a few different things and just can't duplicate your symptom.

Sorry. DM=Desktop Manager, as in the software you install on your computer to interface with your phone for backups, updates, and syncing.

backup NOW then keep trying. Once you backup your phone you can wipe it (if necessary) then restore your apps/data/messages

Phone is backed up now on DM. Went to applications in DM and do not see BB maps? On the phone in Application Management I see where I can delete BBmaps but I am not sure how or where to reinstall the program. Any thoughts?

Open DM and hook up phone via usb. (you may have to select "usb drive" on your device.

when phone is connected, go to "applications" located on the left-side panel

It will then "load applications from device."

Your applications list will take a short time to populate.

Scroll down to where you see BlackBerry Maps.

Should be an "X" to the right. Click the X to indicate you'd like to remove the app.

NOTE: there may be some other apps that DM is suggesting you install. Scroll through the list to ensure you're not installing/removing anything you don't want to.

When all done, click "Apply" which is located at the bottom-right of the window.

Sit back and relax.

Then Repeat the process to reinstall the app, only this time click the + next to BlackBerry Maps as opposed to an X.

FYI, the reason you have to use DM to do this is because Maps is not available in App World. If it were, you could just delete it locally and then reinstall it via app world. (you can still delete it locally if you choose and then just reinstall it via DM.) By "locally," I mean on the device itself.

HOpe that helps. Keep us updated so this thread can help others in the future.

Cheers.

hmmm. Odd. It should be there, whether or not it's on your device, because it's part of the install pack. Its location in the list is not logical, as in it's not really alphabetical and it's not really lumped with other apps. When I just tried it, it was toward the top, just above where all the languages are listed.
