Default Losing all sounds on 9850

I have seen this issue posted in the Bold forums but not here, so I thought I'd see if anyone else is experiencing this.

I'm on VZW's most recent 7.1 OS. For about the past three weeks, my 9850 at random times just loses all its sounds. I have missed several phone calls due to it not ringing and email/text notifiers don't work either. I have to reboot to get them back. Once the sounds are gone in my selected profile, they do not work in any of the profiles.

This is very annoying. Anyone else having this problem?

I'm having a BlackScreen of death issue.
It may have something to do with it.

This sounds very much like the Device MEdia Processor is busy issue. This is a known issue (lots of discussion in these forums) with no exact cause or cure, except a battery pull. It is thought to stem from having 2 competing media sources running at the same time. Media player and a Youtube video; a video and then getting a phone call with an asigned mp3 ring tone etc...

To be certain this is your issue. When you lose sound try playing a song or video.

Thanks for the suggestions. Funny it's taken a few months for it to show up.

I rarely watch videos but I do get frequent phone calls from a contact with one of my downloaded songs as the ringtone. Next time I lose all sound, I will try bringing up my media player.

1magine, I think you're totally right about how it happens. When I saw the warning, I had the media player open, listening to music, and the pictures folder open viewing a photo. I've had one application open at a time and haven't received the warning and everything works fine.

Lost profile sounds again just now. As suggested by 1magine, I opened the media player and played a song with no problem. This is getting quite annoying because there's no alerts for calls, emails, or texts until I reboot and all sound is restored. I hate missing calls!

When I open a sound profile, pick a tone, then hit "Try It", the red LED flashes but nothing out of the speaker. After a reboot, they are all back and work as intended when I click "Try It". I am using only the tones that came on the phone.

Grrrrrr!

Very frustrating. I have suggested this before, much to many people's chagrin - but report the issue to Verizon each time it happens, and if they do not have a fix after the 3rd time in less than a month it happens demand a replacement. Perhaps this will incentivize Verizon to have RIMM push out a solution. Of course, it is rather disheartening to see that so many carriers have already EOL the 9850/9860, pushing updates further to the back of the room.

Had that very experience for the first time today. I was connecting my bluetooth headset and then realized that all sounds were gone. Even when I turned the bluetooth off the sounds didn't return till I rebooted the phone. Ive found 7.1 to be glitchy. I had no problems before the latest update. Since then its been one thing after another.

Last straw tonight... Sounds went out again tonight for the second time today causing me to miss a call from an elderly neighbor who needed help with something. That was the push I needed to call VZW instead of just rebooting until next time.

The CS rep was very courteous and after finding no reference for this issue in his data base, he is sending me another replacement 9850.

Just out of curiosity, while it was inoperable for sounds, I checked and it does play a song in the media player, and incoming calls will vibrate if I select the Vibrate only profile. Put it back on another sound profile and just a blinking LED for calls and emails, no ring. A reboot brought it all back again.

Good grief... I may have to go back to my Storm 1! At least its hardware and OS worked perfectly (for me) for 2.5 years!

And I don't think VZW cares too much if RIM fixes anything... just gives them an easier out to offer up iPhones or Androids. I had the option to switch to either tonight.

===============================================
Update: Next morning... sounds not working again. Dropped out overnight. For the first time, when I selected any ringtone from the list of onboard tones, I got an error message "Invalid ringtone selected, please make another selection." Again, a reboot brought it back. Guess I'll have to leave it on vibrate since I can at least hear that. New phone ETA Friday but I'm not optimistic that it will fix what appears to be an OS issue.

Same issue here. There is also no sound when I place a call when this happens. Is anyone else with this issue running BeBuzz? Definitely looks like a sw issue so don't bother swapping hw.

I'm starting to think hardware is not the problem either. I am the OP and here is an update on my issue: As noted above, the VZW rep could find no troubleshooting suggestions so he ordered a replacement. The phone will be here in today's mail. After reading some of the threads on CB, I uninstalled some apps that used the speaker thinking they might be locking up the sounds.

I uninstalled Bejeweled, Vlingo, and Nobix Radio (all compliments of BB) and I haven't had the sounds drop out for two days now. I still have BeBuzz installed and the text-to-voice added on the last upgrade is working fine and has not created any additional issues.

My main suspect is Bejeweled since others have noted issues with it. Now my dilemma is whether I should activate the replacement 9850 or keep my phone. Although it's not a huge hassle, I really would rather not have to set up a third phone if this one is really OK. I'm going to use it through Monday to see if the problem repeats.

On the up side, it would start my warranty over again... Suggestions???

Update: A couple of hours ago, sounds dropped again. Deleted BeBuzz... waiting and watching.

**Did deleting BeBuzz fix the problem? I have had the same annoying problem as you describe and BeBuzz is the only app that you and I both have, so I am wondering if that is the problem....**

i have 9650, os 5. same issue, alarm doesn't ring, phone ringer doesnt ring. using same os since updated to it - at time was latest os- when got phone yr and half ago. sound issue is new. i also have on my bb some apps that ask for permission to change my sound such as bebuzz permission allowed, - old version, one of first apps put on and doubt is responsible in my case. first time sound issue appeared was after installing complementary drivesafe.ly pro it changed sound profiles to other ringers. once uninstalled, seemed fine. also on my phone as of time rim givaway: bejeweled works w device settings on prompt, i choose no sound whenever infrequenly play; vlingo dev settings allowed but dont use alot - need a tutorial i think and no time, nobix device settings permission denied - maybe why nobix never worked. dont notice correlation w any of them and subsequent issues.

but last week i purchased leave it on - device settings allowed and media setting on prompt and also started playing with bb mobil music and yesterday and today no sounds, no alarm. am wondering if either play a role. i do close bbmusic when am done, it isnt that its open in background trying to connect or do something. i find phone and alarms work all day, bbm music jams up periodically, in am my sounds have gone away in the night till reset the phone. today i intend to play w bbm till it jams up at night, then check my sound profiles and see whether are available, maybe its jammin at nite w busy network and i dont notice cuz no alarms / calls so late? maybe tats it. and then see what happens in am.

use installed bb sounds, fwiw. oh - i have fallen asleep now and then to media player playing my own music from media card with phone in sleep mode, and alarm has interrupted music that played through night to wake me ontime. also calls interrupt media player. dont know if any of this adds anything to discussion, im hoping it does. think maybe i'll also call myself while bbmusic runnin and see results.

I sent the 9850 with the sound issues back to VZW. Even after deleting BeBuzz, the problem continued.

Since I've had my new one, no issues with the sound profiles. I am running BeBuzz. I did not reinstall Vlingo, Nobix, or Bejeweled so don't know if those caused problems.

As I was setting up my replacement phone and upgrading the OS to 7.1, I wondered if I had just reinstalled the OS if that might have cleared the problem. If it happens on this phone, I will try that first thing. Just crossing my fingers that it doesn't happen again!
