this is fixable. Very fixable. See the bricked blackberry guide. Also - sounds like you are installing an incompatible app that is causing this.

If it weren't for that stupid black clock that frequently shows up, I would be content. Whipping out my phone for a quick pic, black clock, to make a quick call, black clock, to text someone that I'm outside to pick them up, black clock. My Storm 9530 lasted 2 yrs before it annoyed me and less than one year w/my 9850.
Do you guys get the frequent clock or your phone would freeze for 30-60 seconds? - 07-21-2012, 07:03 AM

I read more positives then negatives in this thread. I myself have had very little issues with mine. I have had more problems with my 9930 then the 9850.

my 9850 has been incredibly reliable. the only time i have ever had issues was after installing a new firmware. first beta firmware i used bricked it with red led. second phone has been with me ever since. after installing new firmware, i have to open all my apps and do the reinstall thing to get it all working. besides that, i get excellent reception compared to anyone around me, i easily get full days use. i stream pandora for 2-4 hours a day, text and email like crazy, and make some phone calls. my only real issue is how going on the internet browser seems to drain my battery at an incredible rate. a full hour of internet will dent my batt life greatly.
i use a daily reset app to simulate a battery pull (dereset), i also use command control and media key booster to immediately launch apps and text people preset messages. those few apps alone combined with my great reception makes me very hesisitant to get a new phone although i am eligible in august. the phone itself is really small, and compared to many of the current 4g phones, this one is a mighty lil beast, just doesnt have netflix, 4g or words with friends. the led notification is really bright and always visible, and the vibration is up to par. this phone has been lovely to me and the lack of a bb10 phone in sight is killing me. just knowing if it would be 4g lte, be able to sideload android apps, or have some sort of valuable increase in the app store would keep me happy with blackberry. this phone is undeniably the best phone of 3 years ago, but now its easily overlooked (and its not even 1 year old)
in short, its reliable but missing some features i want - 07-22-2012, 01:30 PM #58
super reliable... rarely runs out of battery power during even my busiest days, rarely runs over my datacap, helps me get all my daily duties done (phone, text, bbm, music, browsing the web, poynt, BB Traffic, BB Travel, remote for my PB etc etc). It is a workhorse!!! And everyone I show it to is amazed BlackBerry even has an all-touch-screen phone.

hi all,
9860/9850 is most reliable compared to other series
the only silly things are:
1. 4 buttons, which should be replaced with touch screen system
2. touch screen menu is far from completeness
3. OS memory management is so dull and backward to 20 years ago tech
4. phone function sound is stubborn
hope the upcoming OS version will recover those above stupid thingsJodie

They are definitely tanks. I must have dropped my phone at least a dozen times from 6' or so and have never had one issue.... but I do wish I got that damned screen protector... the smallest little scratches/scuffs on the screen are annoying the crap out of me. Most people can't even see them.... but I can.

I've had mine since September and it had been working perfectly until 7.1 came out. Since 7.1 my speakerphone has been rendered useless. Prior to 7.1 I had to turn the speaker down because it was too loud now I have to have the speaker just about to my ear to hear anyone. Also my phone over the last few months has been getting uncaught exception errors quite often usually from the media player and sometimes from the BB messaging app. Also every once in a while I'll go to answer a call and it says I'm connected and I can hear the other person but they can't hear me, so when I try to call them back I get no dial tone or anything and I have to do a battery pull to get it the phone back to normal.
Other than those annoyances it's been a pretty good phone, battery has been pretty good, most days I can get through the day without putting it on the charger after moderate usage. Although I have to admit my Storm 2 was more reliable I had absolutely no problems with that phone. But I can't wait to trade this in for a BB10 phone next year. - 07-25-2012, 03:39 PM #62
.580 if it releases for download, should be an excellent upgrade for your issues. Just remember to fully wipe and download all apps fresh. I honestly don't know why people back up their apps. It takes a little longer to d/l over wifi - true, but if an app has a corruption, you keep putting it on your device.

I came from the 9900 as I had it for 20 days and thought before the 30 days were up, I exchanged it for the 9860 when it first came out. At first I was very happy with it, bigger screen and able to run my ebay business. Recently though it has been slow and just got a new replacement a few days ago. I am running 7.1.0.523 and will be installing the new update just released a few minutes ago to see if maybe some of the slowness goes away. I think maybe I am ready for the BB10 phone. After testing my brothers Droid, I can say without a doubt his browser loaded up way faster. Dont get me wrong, blackberry users for the last 6 years and not going anywhere as this is the best phone for my business. But I think I am ready for the awesome BB10 as these phones are now outdated and to slow for my business and no I will not get any other phone and will wait. Good news though, this is where my Playbook comes in and takes care of what my phone cant.

You might want to consider shrinking the OS with BBH-Tools. It helps a lot when you strip it from useless things like extra languages you don't need, fonts you won't use, and games and stuff you'll most likely not play. Before, my phone would slow down a lot and even freeze, but now that doesn't happen. Granted it's not the best phone in the world, sometimes it still needs a battery pull here and there but it's a pretty sweet phone.

I got rid of all the asian languages manually, through the Desktop Manager. Only takes a few extra minutes when you're backing up your phone anyways, and frees up an extra 20 MB of space. But Brickbreaker and Word Mole are staying put - they're my guilty pleasures!

I've had my 9860 for about 6 months now, no problems.

Hi all, I got me Torch 9860 in May and it has been a rock solid performer so far. No phone sound quality issues, no button issues, no battery issues, takes such sweet pictures, the audio quality thru my wired Klipsch headset is exceptional and I'm very fussy about audio quality, I can't say enough about using it as a remote for my PB that is so sweet...
I've been using cell phones since the 80's... This is the best phone I've ever had.
Now I told you about me 9860. Now, tell me about you 9860.
