Help required regarding cracked screen or digitiser on 9860
Hi all,
Here is a sad story. Before leaving Aus for Hawaii I checked my 9860 was unlocked. I went to a T mobile dealer here in Honolulu and purchased a pre paid sim. Popped it in, great! Being asked for my BBW password, alerts going off emails streaming in. One happy user. But before I get too involved I need to get my two year old a drink. So fool puts phone in back pocket and sits down. I think you can guess the rest!
The phone starts up and goes berserk. I have no control over the screen by touch or button. I understand there is a plastic cover and an LCD screen. I will purchase the parts and do the repair, being quite handy.
Here is where I need your opinions. If I run my fingernail across the front of the phone I cannot detect any cracks. Therefore I assume the cracks I can see are in the LCD. Therefore I need the expensive part...
the LCD. However, the buttons do not seem quite right either. Their "click" is not so definite....do I or should I purchase the digitiser as well. Should I replace it anyway seeing as the LCD was cracked?
Thanks in anticipation. - 01-07-2013, 09:29 PM #2
Sounds like you tweaked something internal for the keys to be hinky. Based on the behavior, you are looking at the more expensive repair, maybe enough so as to look into replacing the unit, as you may be able to acquire a used device for less than the cost of repairs, depending on what you can find. It's worth a go, at least look around while researching the parts you need.

You'd better replace both the digitizer and the LCD screen, which will be easier for you to repair.

So it was internal, I figured that the break came in where it couldn't be seen from the outside. As the digitizer is behind the screen, that's where the pressure came into play. Glad to hear you're back to the good, now. Nicely done!
