Future updates from Sprint?
Since the 9850 is officially end-of-life with Sprint, I'm guessing that there will be no more software updates for the device from Sprint. The 7.1 version has been out there for a while. My question is if there are any problems/deficiencies that people are experiencing with 7.1. It's a tricky decision to buy an EOL'd product. But if the hardware and software are good to go, then I don't see an issue.
And another related question I have is about app updates. Are app updates coming to the 9850 at the same time they're released for the devices that are still active? I ask because of the unusual screen size and lack of keyboard. So are app updates pushed out to the 9850 on the same schedule as other OS7 phones? Why is it that when your contract commitment is up, the phone you always wanted is now old and the phone you now want won't be out until the next quarter?

louzer, my only complaint is the speakerphone (or lack of) volume. Since I've performed the updates, the volume on the speakerphone is horrible, and seems to get worse! All the other audio over the speaker is fine; it's just when I use the phone that the volume is low. Other than that, I love the phone!

I have the 9850 with verizon with 7.1 and from what I see there is not a big difference. I am sure its just Sprint holding up your update not Rim. Verizon and Sprint both same devices so software should be the same just carrier still testing would be my answer. As far as future upgrades go it looks like rim is holding on to OS 7 as well as BB10 from what I read so I am sure we will see future updates.

No. EOL means EOL. Its useful life has ended on Sprint. The question is will there be other leaked or official 9850 OSes coming out. No one knows for sure, but don't expect to see anything from Verizon. That leaves very few options. Very few. Unless some tester really loves this device and has a bug about getting an OS pushed through, I very much doubt we'll see more than one more leak or official before BB10. And I would think that might be the end of it. It is most unfortunate that BB has not moved to add OSes to the BetaZone. This would be very helpful in stemming current losses and a very attractive option for new users of BB10.

This is OS .580 also released to the 9900 on Sprint today. We need to use BBBoss or one of the other tools to offload the OS.

There is instructions on the forums from Lyricidal to offload the OS and turn it into an .exe. That's what I was referring to.

Yeah I realize. I guess if it works just as well as the official executable then fine by me.

Well it's better - because it's sooner rather than later.
