Fatal Error memory card on 9850..HELP

OK - I've been reading posts on "fatal errors" when reading memory cards. Mine just did this today for no apparent reason. Tried to "repair" it, and it says fatal error.
I did a battery pull, removed the SD card, etc and it still wont read. I put the SD card in the computer and it reads just fine. (it's a ScanDisk - FYI)
SO I then took a different SD card and put it into my torch, and still get the fatal error message..... has my SD reader in the phone then gone kaput? If so, what the heck do I do about it???? HELP
