Have a few hairline scratches, can't see them when LCD is on. Hopefully I am mitigating the problem with a soft velvet pouch:
Black:
Black Soft Suede Pouch Case For iPod touch 4 4th G Gen | eBay

Purple:
Purple Sleeve Pouch+Black Soft Silicone Case Cover for Apple iPod Touch 4th 4G | eBay

Pink:
Pink Soft Suede Pouch Pocket Skin Cover Case For iPod touch 4 G 4th Gen OS USA | eBay

There are probably other colors. Any iPod touch pouch of similar size to 9860/9850 will do.

Cheers to all!

After a few days of using my 9860, I noticed a few small hairline scratches. You have to
hold the phone at an angle under a lamp to see them, but they're there.

I went out and got a Zagg Invisible Shield and it's been great. It's a little pricey at $20 but I don't want to risk it.

I did not use screen protectors on my previous two phones (Storm 1 and Storm 2) and they were just fine for the life of the phones. I keep phones for about a year or so. Not a single noticeable scratch on either. So, when i got the 9850 I figured I could get away without one again. I work in construction, so it's not the cleanest of environments. Anyway, I noticed fine scratches all over my 9850 in a very short period of time. The screen on this phone has no where near the durability of my previous glass-screened BB's. I promptly added a screen protector to this handset.

One nearly invisible scratch on mine and one on my wife's phone. I just installed the otterbox commuter protector on my wife's 9850 today. She was trying out the case itself before using the protector in case we wanted to return it. I tried as much as I could to remove the dust but a few specs remained, instant bubbles. We'll see how that goes, with the screen on you really can't see them and touch sensitivity seems unchanged. I ordered a 3 pack of prtoectors from ebay for mine, right now I just have the body glove hard shell but I keep it in a bold holster 99% of the time.

I have a flip over leather case & find this protects the screen, no scratches or marks so far.

Can't agree with this post enough. I've had a few custom made skins on past devices from Zagg and loved them. Super tough skin that again can be made into a picture or piece of art you like and a tough screen protector without the bulk of a case. I just ordered a custom skin for my 9850, when it comes I'll review it here and post pictures. You'll love it.

Ghost Armor. I dropped mine five feet onto a granite step. It bounced and slid across the step on its screen. Not a scratch. Stuff is amazing. The iSkin case helped too (on the initial impact), but it didn't protect the screen.
