About time RIM found something else to do
Forced back to using a 9860 after my 9790's trackpad went bananas every time the sun shone! What a naff piece of kit this is! As far as I am concerned the months to the end of my contract cannot fly by fast enough - then I can be sure to buy any phone other than a Blackberry and wave an enthusiastic farewell to all things (g)RIM!

About time RIM found something else to do
All phones go bad at one time or another. Even nonBB ones.
Live and learn.

I detect a patronising tone ... but, that said, I guess I am doing exactly as you suggest ... living and learning ... to steer clear of (g)RIM!

And some screens you can't see and use in the sun. Ever hear of shade? Your body can do that faced the right direction.

You should get an iphone they are very nice and friendly and you will like it. They even have apps telling you its your fault that the phone doesn't work right. Nice and friendly. Listening to nice and friendly Justin Bieber on your new friendly iphone.

No problem seeing the screen ... yes, I have heard of shade (another patronising genius, I guess ... oh, goodness no, this one's a genius of geniuses) but shade in the open was not a solution ... a darkened room however did resolve the problem but I found this solution too (g)RIM for words!

Thank goodness for that, a nice and friendly madman with a, frankly, rather mad suggestion - iPhone doesn't appeal I'm afraid ... no, things feel (g)RIM at the moment but, hey, they're not that (g)RIM!

Re: About time RIM found something else to do
Have you not heard of people complaining about not being able to use their screen in sunlight because they can't see it well enough? Take it however you want to. Doesn't matter to me, the point is you can turn your body to create shade so it is usable, I can see where that may be too difficult.
Edit to add that you shouldn't put any stock into the silly title crackberry gives users based on the number of post they have. That title means nothing.Last edited by kbz1960; 10-07-2012 at 08:10 AM.

Enjoy your purple pictures and data overages with the itoy. And with android you will find it has most features of the bb experience but just comes out weirdly different. My 9800 is going on two plus years and works great.

I'm not really into purple ... nor the weirdly different! I think the reason I am feeling so (g)RIM is that up until now I, like you, have felt pretty happy with my BB's.

Don't know the show (I'm in the UK so I don't think it's reached us yet). I'm afraid I'm a Brit ... we are being told increasingly to get in touch with our emotions so hence the reason for my (g)RIM outburst. Don't know that I feel any better than I did before!!

Re: About time RIM found something else to do
There are a lot of posts on here about this issue -- trackpad in bright sunlight. I have personally not had the issue. But plenty of others have. I am not sure but there may be OS versions that can make the issue less severe. Have you searched on here and read up on it?

LOL I thought venting was suppose to help? Well it does me sometimes but not always and we are all different, thankfully.

Re: About time RIM found something else to do
southlander - No-one has come up with a solution for the trackpad issue ... having taken an affected BB thru 3 or 4 OS upgrades I can confirm that none of these made the slightest difference ... the problem is a hardware one I'm sure ... one of these days when I can steel myself to the possibility of messing up £200 or so of kit I'll get the cover off and have a go at replacing the trackpad. The problem did get worse to a point when the machine wouldn't work in anything more than a darkened room! Oh well, the sun's over the yardarm ... time for a whisky to lift the (g)RIM blues!!

Re: About time RIM found something else to do
IIs your BB the only electronic device that has broken or showed signs of wear? If so, you are lucky. For me I have had horrible luck with Samsung. RIM products have been great....have I worn out a BB or two...I have and as luck would have it my contact with vzw allowed me a nice discount on my new bb. May I add my 9930 is the best phone I have ever owned.
Good luck with your purchase of a anti rim product. - 10-07-2012, 04:35 PM #19
Re: About time RIM found something else to do
Why didn't you have it fixed under warranty? The 9790 hasn't been out a year yet.

Re: About time RIM found something else to do
Hey bb624, I wouldn't touch a Samsung (and I hate Apple/Mac just for the fact they artificially peg their prices so high). I used to love Nokia until about 3 years ago when they went into rapid decline. Perhaps the reason I'm feeling so (g)RIM is that RIM is the only worthwhile way and yet all I've got from them at the moment is a lunatic 9790 and a soggy old 9860. I would stress I'm feeling (g)RIM rather than anti-RIM. Maybe I'll feel more cheerful tomorrow!

Good question, BoldPreza. Supplier was not impressed and quoted our friends at (g)RIM ... some "get out" about the trackpads and their operation under certain light conditions. I should have more backbone ... I'll try again!

Re: About time RIM found something else to do
The bottom line is, if there is a functional problem with the device that is covered under the warranty, then you are well within your right to exercise this warranty. Demonstrate the issue to the supplier, explain how it affects the usability and functionality of your device, and firmly but politely request a functional trackpad/device.

Re: About time RIM found something else to do
I can understand OrangeBerry's frustration, but one has to realise that there's no perfect device out there. iPhones, BB, and Android phones all have their faults. Apple knew about their sapphire lens flare giving off a purple hue and their recommended fix: "shield it with your hands or move the camera." That's it.
For OrangeBerry's device, it's a hardware issue. Get it fixed, or exchanged. Clearly it's not working for you, making you frustrated, you're not satisfied, have them fix it or replaced.
But if you come in to a forum and vent and kick around stones and stomping your feet like a child, expect to be treated like one. Cheers, mate. - 10-08-2012, 07:40 AM

Re: About time RIM found something else to do
I'm sure that nothing is wrong with it ... I just find it a poor performer when compared with a physical keyboard BB. Hence the reason I got a 9790 (which is why I was not too happy when that started acting up). kbz1960, thanks for remaining firmly friendly despite my irritable behaviour ... much appreciated.
