9850 w/ OS 7.1.0.267 and FB 3.0.0.15
Anyone else have this device/OS combination (9850 w/ OS 7.1.0.267) and this version of Facebook (3.0.0.15)?
I have been having a lot of issues with the device freezing for several seconds, sometimes with the hour glass, sometimes not. I thought it was just the OS, but since I upgraded Facebook it's been a LOT worse.
I deleted FB for the day, and it did seem to make a difference with the number of times and duration of freezing (pathetic that it still freezes at all).
I reinstalled FB this morning and do not have notifications showing up in the Messages app....will continue to monitor for the next couple of days.BES Admin somewhere in West Michigan - 04-17-2012, 11:52 AM #2
My best suggestion would to be update the OS to the newest official release which is 7.1.0.342. You can find the link for the download here: OS 7.1.0.342 from U.S. Cellular available and see what happens.
You could also try wiping the phone and reinstalling the OS you have if for some reason you don't want the newest official release (although I am not sure why you would not?)
The spinning hour glass and freezing seems to be a relatively common issue with the 9850's for some reason. If you can't remedy the problem I would suggest just getting the phone replaced honestly. I'm at a point myself where if I was to have a problem (thankfully I don't with my 9860 - knock on wood lol) with my phone, I'm not willing to sit around for hours trying to trouble shoot the thing. - 04-17-2012, 11:57 AM

I thought about the wipe and reload, or just wipe and get a different phone

If it turns out the issue is worse with Facebook reinstalled I will just remove it again. Frankly the pain it is to upgrade or wipe just makes me cringe to find out if it's worth it.... plus I have to dig up all of my registration codes again, and I feel lazy today.

I guess upgrading when you are on a BES is more troublesome then if you were not? I've never had a BlackBerry on a BES so I am not sure exactly how that works
hope you figure out the problem though, I know it would drive me nuts
btw, nice avatar

Wouldn't be a big deal since I'm the BES Admin, but this is my personal device, too, so also has my gmail account on it. Again not hard to restore everything, just a major pain in the @ss.
Apparently it has to be a lot worse of an issue for me to bother going thru the trial and error to fix it

Time for a 9860!

I have the same combo and my device is constantly freezing. I have it so that Facebook only updates when I open the application, so when it's closed its not creeping around behind my back. I never thought that it could have probably been Facebook, but I'll delete it and see how it goes from there.

^ pretty much this. turn off FB auto update and do the same with any weather app you might have.

Since I've deleted the Facebook application my phone has not froze at all (going on about 14 hours since deletion)
Battery life is still going down as before but no freezing issues.
Weather application, beweather, only updates when I do it manually. - 04-18-2012, 02:20 PM

I reinstalled FB and set it to NOT put notifications in my Messages app. That seems to have fixed it. I does still update behind the scenes, but no freezing. I do now have to go into FB to view the notifications (I still get the notification icon up top, so know what's there).
I have BerryWeather installed, too, and it auto updates and I've never had an issue with freezing with it.BES Admin somewhere in West Michigan - 04-18-2012, 02:32 PM #11
I pretty much don't have any of my apps auto update, I don't see the point. Especially with Facebook, it just updates whenever you open it anyway, so what is the point in having it update in the background when it has no effect on your notifications? Just seems like a battery and memory waste to me.
I don't have BerryWeather update itself either, but I could see why people would so that they don't have to open the app up each time.
I just don't like setting my apps to auto update, a) because it always seems to give people problems, and b) its just extra juice for the battery I'd rather not waste. - 04-18-2012, 04:10 PM #12
you can turn on all the notifications again without a problem if you set "refresh news feeds" to Never.
