Default 9850 7.1 Google Maps Voice Search issue

Hey - I updated to 7.1 on my VZW 9850 and since my Google Maps voice search just gives the error 'try restarting google mobile maps' when doing a voice search.

I've tried an uninstall/reinstall and even a 'reset' of Google maps under the help with no results.

Does anyone else have the same issue?

I had a few problems with Google maps even before I updated to 7.1. The consistent freezing/pauses was the main problem. I simply uninstalled it completely. Hopefully it improves in the near future or maybe BB Maps will get a few new features.

ibobby - ya, for what it's worth, I had issues where it would give me the hourglass for about 1-2 minutes (always seemed to happen when I was the most in need of it ;-))

Don't cha hate when that happens!!! Hey have you tried Blackberry Traffic. Thats a sweet app. Voice guidance has been implemented and it finds the best route for you. Automatically recalculates if you miss a turn. Although it uses BB Maps you never have to open it. Its the new true GPS for BB. Give it a try.

AND ITS FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL!!!!!!!!!!!

Funny, it seems that a few apps are having issues with voice recognition since 7.1 came out. I don't think i've tested the voice search on GM lately. Will have to check that out.

+1 on the BlackBerry Traffic. It's awesome. I love using it when I'm driving in a non-navigation equipped car. It's even handy when walking around a city.

Exact same scenario here (same hardware, same update, same carrier). Wasn't a problem before the OS update. I've lost GPS recognition too. I detailed the issue and my attempts at fixing it in another thread because of the GPS issue. I relied on Google Maps a lot. Any help would be appreicated.

If you don't use mobile hot spot, Drop back to 7.0 and download bb diagnostic tools (if you used them). Better memory management too. DM makes a downgrade so much easier than it used to be.

Here is how I got the Google map voice search to work on my 9850 after the OS 7.1 update.

Open google maps.
Minimize it (hit off/hangup key)
Hit magnifying glass (search) on desktop. Hit it again (it turned to mic).
Say anything. Hit done.
Go back to google maps.
Voice search now works.
