Default Whats the latest with the device switch wizard issue?

I am picking up my 9810 Sunday and would like to know if i should use the DSW? Do i need to uncheck applications? Or should i just use blackberry protect and load my apps and settings manually?

I don't know about the Torch, but it worked perfectly on my Bold 9900 (transferred from a Bold 9700 running os6)

Just make sure you have the latest BB desktop software. Mine's version 6.1.something

It even transferred my apps, albeit some of them don't work with os7 now, but that's fine... I can manually delete or upgrade them as new versions come out.

Using BB protect or backup/restore doesn't transfer all your old BBM contacts - you have to manually re-invite ALL of them! PITA! I tried doing it this way first because of all the naysayers, but I gave up and wiped my device and used the device transfer wizard and it worked perfectly very Quick & Easy!

lol ... breaking news ... this just in ....

I followed and participated in all of this ongoing insanity over in the 99xx forum. It seems that using Switch Devices on DTS works fine as long as you deselect Third Party Applications. That is, make sure that only Device Data is selected. Otherwise, there are various problems with your apps, the main one being that they show up as unavailable in App World.

So after using the wizard and bringing just Device Data over, you can then go into App World and reinstall your apps from there. Apps from the CB store/Mobihand or elsewhere have to be reinstalled on their own terms. (No offense to CB, but this is one reason why I always choose to get apps via App World whenever possible.)

I did the same with DSW going from my 9700 to the 9800. If anyone is switching from the 9800 to the 9810, I would do a full back-up/synch using DM before going to the store on Sunday.

I did a full switch and 6 apps were fine in AW and 13 were unavailable. Does this mean that if I wipe and start over, I can get my apps back? I thought it was an issue of them just not being compatible with the device/OS since there were so few apps available to me in AW which I never had installed compared to all the apps I could find with my 9700.

i did a device switch from my 9700 to my 9900, didnt do 3rd party apps.
worked great, only thing that I did on top of it was a BBM contact list restore.

*sigh* Guess what I'll be doing tonight? On the bright side, at least I found this.

No, you can try the following workaround, courtesy of the BB Knowledge Base article:

    1. Open BlackBerry Desktop Software
    2. Connect the affected BlackBerry to the computer
    3. Click on Applications from the left side
    4. Next to the listing for BlackBerry Identity with version 2.0.0.15, click the 'X' under the Action column to select to remove this
    5. Click Apply at the bottom right
Note: This will start a reload on some of the BlackBerry core files, which is expected.

If BlackBerry Identity does not show up in the Applications list, applications can be updated/installed from BlackBerry App World using a USB connection from here or by visiting appworld.blackberry.com/webstore.

If neither of those workarounds work, you can just upgrade to the latest leaked OS (the leaked .317 at this point), making sure you deselect back up third party apps in DTS/App Loader and only back up/restore device data. I've heard some people have had success with a security wipe, but I'm not 100% sure and again, you have to have your device data backed up to restore after the wipe.

Yeah this did help the BB App World, but now my phone is screwed up in other ways. Thought it warranted a new thread...

Unfortunately, mine kept getting hung up when trying to do a switch.....for the on board memory back up.

I just had to do a restore on my new phone. Also working on a mac, so . . . maybe that comes into play.

Used device switch and it worked just fine (I did not "switch" apps from previous device).
