Default What is the best 7.1 OS for AT&T users of 9810

I am tired of waiting for AT&T to come out with a new OS and my current official 7.0 OS is giving me delay issues at every point. Can anyone suggest a 7.1 that has worked without much incident on AT&T? Thanks

Hi howserow: As most on here can attest, I'm a big fan of the 7.1.378!
If you are looking to move to 7.1, I'd try downloading the 7.1.378 build from Mobilicity. I down loaded/upgraded it on my 9810 and my wife's 9810 about 3 weeks ago and man, it is awesome!
Zero problems and awesome battery life compared to 7.0. It also has some new features that are long overdue. Besides the free hotspot (unlike on AT&T), it has the emergency message folder and of course the new Blackberry device analyzer which has a lot of good tools to help you analyze your phone and what’s being used on it. It's worth the try to download it, believe me!
The web address for the download if you want it is:
    https://swdownloads.blackberry.com/D...BBAC5CAAD7F186
    or
    https://swdownloads.blackberry.com/D...B9D07943D855AB
The first one takes you directly to the download, the second address is BB's Super download page and can direct you to many downloads. This is the only download that you don't see many, (if any) issues with on this forum. You need to do a couple of battery pulls once it is on your phone and reset your email (clicking on the account in setup--it does the rest) and you may need to reinstall a couple of 3rd party apps but that is about all. DM or loader does it all!

If you do download it or any other "Official" (like this is), or any "leaked" OS's, make sure and delete the two Vendor.xml files from you pc. There are a lot of instructions on here on how to do it but I can post them if you would like me to. I can also post complete instructions if needed but they can be found on here in a lot of posts.
Good luck and let us know how it goes if you do it!

Hey go1ndr - Thanks a ton for your response and help with this. I am happy to hear that this version is going well on AT&T's 9810 and will definitely be following your advice to try it out. I have some experience with OS updates of leaked versions and should be able to make it through the installation process. IF I have any problems, I'll holler you!
    Thanks - Howserow

I will also try .378 as .402 is a No go, freezes a lot and has touchscreen problems. Was waiting for some at&t user input on .378 and seems the way to go now. Thanks.

    jhirizarry,
I can only speak for my 9810 and my wife's. I put 378 on both and they both work great! I did a couple of battery pulls immediately after the OS was installed and a couple more over the next two days, but probably didn't need to do that-- and i have had no issues!
I did have to reset my email account (just clicked on the highlighted account and it did the rest) and I think I needed to apply a couple of license numbers on 3rd party apps, but all is well.
I ran into a small issue with my wife's install as I had copied the download file onto a flash stick and there was some corruption on it-software not virus. Windows fixed it and the 507 went away and the download went smoothly.

Unlike a leak, when you download fromthe site (official download), you will be required to give your name, address and you will need to check the agreement box. No issues doing this btw. Once that is completed, it immediately downloads. As you know, make sure and back up everything first and if there are still vendor files, delete them of course. I used DM instead of Loader and it only took about 15 mins if that, including the back up it does. Good luck and let us know how it goes and what you think after a couple of days. hopefully you will love it

Okay, I did the update last night and have just begun life with the 9810 anew. It is still too early to tell battery life improvements, but I see the emergency folder and the hotspot feature (not sure how to activate it, thought).
I was hoping for newer OS versions to correct an issue that I've had on all previous 9810 OS versions - certain apps and features on websites only working on WiFi and not on the mobile network. Urfortunately that still seems to be ignored by RIM.
But the installation and restoration process was unusually flawless and you can never complain when that happens!

Like others .378 gets my vote. Smooth as silk now. .402 had the microphone issue. Loving this one after 2 days.

Glad to hear the installation went well Howsero and Sedalia066! You should do a few battery pulls over the next few days as the OS settles in. I've never been sure exactly why that is, but I guess it is like Windows 7 telling you to reboot after updates are done. I learned that they need to be actual battery pulls and not the one of the different quick pull apps. I hope you guys love 378 as much as I do.
BTW, I haven't used the HotSpot yet either but I think you just click on it and it does it automatically--may be wrong but i clicked on it once and it appeared like it was working. I have so many wifi areas between my home and office that it isn't needed but I'll test it out the next time I'm on business travel. Good luck and have a great weekend!

The HotSpot does seem to be click and activate without an ATT warning. All around good news so far. Better and better as time and experience with the OS accumulate. Far and away the best yet for me.

Glad it's working good for you! Going on 3 weeks (installed on the 4th I think) and no issues as of this time. Very happy about that!

Though .378 may be great, I have had no issues with .402. Others have had microphone issues with .402, but I have had none, no lag or issues. That being said, your experience may be totally different. Although we have supposedly identical phones...all 9810's, how each phone reacts to an OS is individual phone specific.

The one nice feature you have with .378 is the wifi Hotspot capability. Just realize if you use it too much, AT&T may nail you.

Agreed. As for the hotspot issue, I don't plan on using it much if at all so that is not a major concern to me.

I tried the hotspot immediately after the installation was completed. The message came up and said that it was not activated and to contact the network provider. A little while later I called AT&T customer service about a billing matter and asked about changing my data plan from "2GB Blackberry data" to "2GB Blackberry data 4G" (same $25 price). After that midification I did a battery pull and upon restart I tried it again and didn't get a prompt saying to contact the carrier. I created a hotspot passcode and set it up. I then went to my laptop to see if it detected a new WiFi connection and there it was! I connected to it and it opened a webpage with fairly fast speeds.

My only question is - will AT&T charge for the time and data while connected to it - especially since I don't have a tethering package. Anyone have an idea?

Their system will detect the tethering eventually and will change you to the tethering data plan. I used to work for ccare and seen it happen.

I believe Curvezzz is probably correct. However for me, it may not be an issue as I doubt that I would use the hotspot (as I mentioned), I have wifi available everywhere I am for the most part. And, I'm on a 20-year old grandfathered plan (yeah, I've been with AT&T that long--since it was Cellular One!) for unlimited data, so I wouldn't add anything that messed with that plan.

I am also on 378 on AT&T, the only problem I am having is with the built-in media player that can hang for no reason after prolonged period of use. However, the other third party media players (PodTrapper, TOMPlayer, Mobiola XPlayer) never hung up, just the built-in media player. Lame. My guess is the built-in media player makes use of the media framework API a little differently than the way third party ones do. Maybe the use of one or more of RIM's internal unpublished media framework API methods causes the problem.

Other than the built-in media player lameness, it's pretty good OS, you get "free" AT&T hotspot to boot.

It is "free" in the sense that you can somehow use it on AT&T without signing up for tethering plan. Use too much AT&T will catch on and possibly stick tethering on your existing plan automatically. This release and an earlier 2xx release are the only ones that allow "free" AT&T hotspot.

ATT woudn't know which OS you are running. If you use a lot of tethering or wifi hotspot without a tethering plan, they might change your data plan to one that includes it. I only use wifi hotspot in a pinch, so they haven't caught on yet.

Yes. You need to have a tethering plan from AT&T. There is a fixed amount in the plan (they differ on the amount) and if you go over that amount they start billing you for extra. Need to be careful as it can add up. I only use this when away from home, at a hotel or coffee shop or such.

378 all the way.... was using it on a previous 9810.... made the phone feel like a nokia 3310... does what you need it to do when you want it to do something!!! and the battery life is somewhat 'iffy' because you cant change the network setting to 2g or 3g, so where i life it will always show 4g, but what i read is that the phone fights to find those signals so it contributes to battery life.... on weekends when im at home most of the day on wifi the battery drains to about 50% by 7pm if i unplug it around 7am in the morning...

I don't understand the free Hotspots comments. I'm on AT&T. My previous BB was a 9700 and now I have a 9810. With both phones, I've always had FREE Hotspots access. I have a local Meijer store that is listed as a Hotspot, I've never had a problem accessing its Wi-Fi automatically as I come into its range. It's worked every time for years. So what gives with others and Hotspots acess?
