Would be nice since a lot of legal documents can't be sent by email , but there are those expensive electronic fax sites

what i know & my opinion.

the device shows up in my (windows xp) device-manager as a "standard modem", so i manually setup a dial-up connection. but, when i try to connect, the dial-up software doesn't detect the "modem."

someone adept with initialization strings might find a way, but imo regarding the simple fax capability you're seeking, i don't think it's there.

I believe that while it is true that the BB can be used as a modem for your laptop I use it with my BB Desktop Mgr. To surf the web since I have tethering on my carrier plan I think you need it to be connected to a landline to use the fax mode. Since it uses the phone line.

i tethered for a while, and what suprised me was at the top of the device's screen it says "modem mode enabled"...that's what made me think i might be able to dial-up (just like a landline) and make use of my thousands of rollover voice minutes.

as i said above, it didn't work...but maybe it can, if someone knows how to properly initialize the "standard modem" within windows config.

more thoughts:

i think they're using the technical term "modem" loosely. i also think that if we could do this, nobody would be offering unlimited voice minutes.

Modem doesn't imply "fax modem."

I use Free Fax • Free Internet Faxing to fax from the phone. For one to three pages it's free.
