Default Upgrading from 9800 to 9810 how does bb app world handle those freebies??

I'm getting ready to upgrade my 9800 to a 9810. I'm a BES user so I'll just do a fresh download for my email. I don't have a lot of purchased apps (actually i don't think I have any), but I do have a few of those BB freebies (drive safe.ly, vlingo and 1 or 2 others) that I'd like to have on my new BB. Question. Will they download from appworld to my new phone? Should I use that app that makes COD files and install them that way? How should I handle this?

    Thanks,

    Roveer

    Default talking from experience...

my first BB was the 9800 (OS6) upgraded to the 9810 (OS7) last year and had no problems installing some of the same apps that the old 9800 had, but when OS7 first came out a lot of apps weren't supported on 9810 or even nonexistent until months and months later it started receiving support from developers and anyway, granted i didn't change to OS7 before downloading these free apps but i'm sure if they worked for your OS6 most likely it'll transfer over to the new OS7 fine. If you're still unsure, I would make a complete backup of all your apps in one file with BBSak, it's easy.

Roveer, Make a complete back up on DM prior to the upgrade. Using BBSAK is always a good idea but I've read it isn't necessary on 7.0 and up and sometimes doesn't play nice with 7.0.
Then do a "device switch" using DM (Desktop Manager Software>Device>switch Devices) , answer a couple of question like "restore 3rd party apps", and let it do its thing. DM will do a second back up and then delete the current DM 6.x OS and install
7.x OS, and then restore all of your files. Any 3rd party apps that are not compatable with 7.x will go under "uninstalled" in App World and everything that is compatable will be restored with updates.
I'd copy any license keys you have from purchases in case they ask for them and you'll have to reset your email address (no biggie) and you are set to go.

Once installed do a couple of battery pulls and you should be up and running. I'd then upgrade to one of the many 7.1 OS's that are available on here (.378 works great with 9810's), and you will be a happy camper. 9810 is light years ahead of the 9800 and the 7.1 is light years ahead of 7.0 for OS's. Good luck and keep us posted.

Agreed! Light Years ahead of the 9800--even with 7.0 on it! With 7.1--Thousands of Light Years ahead!! LOL

Backup all the CODs from your 9800 using BBSAK before you switch. Some of my favorite apps are not technically available for the 9810, and aren't shown in App World. Some 9800 CODs like EveryHour work flawlessly on the 9810. Other 9800 CODs like ParkMobile have screen layout problems on the 9810 but work reasonably well otherwise.
