Default Trying to upgrade to 7.1 now I have ERROR 102

Was trying to upgrade to 7.1 and part way through got a white screen that says Error 102. Everything I've read says "reload software" but nothing seems to work. Can someone point me to a post for doing this.

    Thanks.

Reinstall the OS! If it doesn't work, try downloading another OS

Your device model says 9800. So, are you trying to load OS 7.1 software on your 9800?

From the head MOFO in charge:

Which OS are you trying to install? Is is an officuial release from your carrier, is it a leak or even a hybrid? It would be useful to know.

I have found that with the 9810 it is sometimes neccessary to remove the OS compleyely. This is known as bricking the phone. Once done you will see JVM Error 507. This means the phone now has no OS on it and is now ready for you to install one.

Here is a link that shows most of the more common JVM errors. 102 shows that:
    102Invalid code in filesystem
The system checked the COD files in the device for modification and determined that a problem exists with one or more COD files.

If all loads fail, a build process error might occur (a problem exists with signing the COD files).

If a user action on the device resulted in this problem, the reset cycle is continuous because the code in the filesystem has been corrupted. The only recovery method is to wipe the device and restore a new system.
From this it looks like you have at least one bad file in your OS build.

You probably need a new OS download file.

I am currently running OS 7.1.0.391 from Rogers and it has proven (for me) to be very reliable. You can download it from here.
Official: BlackBerry Torch 9810 OS 7.1.0.391 from Rogers Wireless Inc.

Once yo have your phone working again you can then install any OS you choose.

Blacklatino, he has a 9810. There is another thread where he asks about what the best OS is for a 9810 since he just got one. Guess his updating OS didn't go so well and now he has a corrupted file.

I have never had to reload the OS due to a JVM error (thank goodness), but I assume it is just like loading an OS. I assume you do this:

Thanks for all the quick replies.

I've got to update my picture on CB. I'm on a 9810 now.

Was able to get it to reload 7.1 (rogers w/deleted v.xml) using DM. Basically gave me the phone back wiped, but a reauth from BES brought back all my important settings.

Now I'll start looking at my apps. I really didn't have that many.

In general OS upgrades go well but there have been a few cases where the OS image has a bad file. Given the amount of OS leaks we've had over the years the percentage error has been pretty low.

I have not had my 9810 very long and when I had trouble installin a new OS it immediately downloaded a known good OS that had been released by a reputable carrier from the RIM website.

When this would not install I was forced to wipe the phone and start from zero.

Unfortunately this is what JVM Error 102 requires according to RIM.

Any help the OP needs will be easily accessible here.

Ok, Thanks. I asked because I've had to PM me and that ended up being the final issue. Might want to reboot the PC after deleting/reinstalling the OS.
