Default transitioning from 9800 to 9810

I'm finally getting my upgrade from AT&T in a couple of weeks and already have a 9810 on hold. Anyone else who has already done this have any advice or know of any issues in moving data/apps over? I'm imagining it pretty straight forward using the desktop manager.

    I didn't have any issues.

The 9810 actually has about the same amount of Application Storage memory as the 9800 but the OS is about 100 MB larger.

You'll need to turn-on the Memory Cleaner app...Options -> Security -> Advanced Security Settings -> Memory Cleaning (click Enable and click to place the shortcut on the home screen)

AT&T will have this phone on the 4G network...it's much faster than the 9800 on 3G.

The 9810 is much better than the 9800. You'll love web browsing on the phone.

Beautiful screen and pinch to zoom is really smooth

i had very little issues. some of the apps i had on OS6 were not supported with OS7, but most of those have since been upgraded to OS7. some of them i found out i really didnt use all that much anyway.

moving most of my files was done by moving the sd card over to the new phone, and the desktop manager handled the rest.

i liked the 9800, and i have not regretted going up to the 9810.

Those of us that switched when the 9810 first was released had a problem with device switching the apps. It was better at that time to do a device switch but to reinstall our apps one at a time due to incompatibility between some OS 6 apps and OS 7. My phone has worked like a charm. There is a big difference between the 9800 and the 9810.

I had no problems making the switch over.. It was quick and painless.

Thanks for all the replies and positive comments, I was briefly tempted to switch to android but this reaffirms my decision to stick with my BB :-)

I didn't transition from a 9800, but my good friend has had one for a long time and I spend a lot of time on it when she's driving us, replying to her texts and stuff, since driving and texting is illegal in California.

After I got the 9810, I saw what a huge improvement it is over the 9800--it just doesn't look like it from the outside. One app that doesn't work...was the free Camera Mute App that was only for OS6 devices. Other than that, I think you'll be really happy with the better screen, MUCH better web browser, and overall speed that you can move around the phone...without seeing that clock!

The first thing you should do is upgrade to the latest version of OS 7.1 if it is not already on the phone.

If you can, avoid the device switch wizard as I and others had problem with programs not compatible with OS7 being loaded and causing battery drain problems or other glitches. Just re-download your programs through AppWorld. AppWorld will only give you programs compatible with your device.

Perhaps somebody can post a link to a tutorial for switching devices and getting your data over. When I switch between devices I use BlackBerry protect to do the switch, but you still need to backup some setting to a sd card, such as BBM contacts and complex App setups, such as BeWeather.

Do the 9810's have the same issue with the back and BlackBerry buttons that the 9860 does?

The BlackBerry and back buttons will occasionaly stop working for no apparent reason. I was just wondering if the 9810 has the same issue.

I don't recall any of the issues you describe. The only thing that has been stated is a trackpad issue, but that has been usually caused by a bad app (switching apps during device switch) not compatible with OS7. I have never had the issue.

My 9810 has been basically bug free since the day I got it last November.

Awesome, thanks! I'm missing my keyboard so that's why I'm looking at the 9810. Also, I'm glad to hear that your's has been basically bug free for the five months you've had it.

Also, with the 9810 will any microUSB car charger work? I'm asking because with the 9860 none of my DC chargers work.

I found the cheaper chargers don't work.. I must say.. For keyboarding, as much as I loved my 9800 and now my 9810, the feel of the keyboard and typing on the 9900 blows the torch away.. Had I played with the 9900 enough, I would have chosen that over the 9810.

Just picked up a used 9810 for $210 and I will sell my 9800. I find the prices on e-bay aren't all that different oddly enough. At the most it will cost me $75 to upgrade to a much better phone. Hope the 9810 I got is as nice as in the picture - looks good.

I have a 9810, my wife has a 9800. My phone is faster and has OS 7.1, things feel smoother. The 9810 is what the 9800 should have been.

I got mine at $0 on my cellular plan from Rogers when at the time they were charging $199 for an iPhone on contract. I had a Curve 8900 before, so I was shopping around and Blackberry was my #1 choice... So when I saw the 9810 promo at $0 it was sold, no looking back!

Otherwise they look identical. I have swapped backs with my wife as she likes the shinier finish. We also have similar cases, I get her old one when she gets a new one. Batteries same. Honestly, they are like Tweetle Dee and Tweetle Dum, only one is the faster twin and runs OS 7 and the other I doubt will ever get past 6.

glad i'm not the only one that switched battery covers.

i liked the 9800 cover, and when i upgraded could never get used to the slick metal backing.

the 9810 looks a little more professional with the old back on it as well.

Thanks for the tip. I'll keep an eye out for the 9900 as well.

One major problem and a bunch of minor issues, but no show stoppers.. My 9810 came pre-loaded from RIM with 7.1.0.402 a week before anyone else had it, so that was sweet.. The main thing you have to watch out for are apps that are not OS7 compatible: many will seem to run just fine, but will drain your battery incredibly quickly, especially if they are designed to sit in the background: I used to use an "app lock" application on the 9800 to just lock down my mail and BBM without having to lock down the entire phone, but on the 9810, the app "works" (ie, it locks the apps), but it does not "sleep" properly and drains the battery quickly; I even spent a bunch more $$ on 3 other top-rated "app locks", and all of them "work" but also drain the battery very quickly.. I ended up having to uninstall them and just use the standard BlackBerry security lock.. Other issues include apps that don't know how to deal with the 9810's higher resolution screen (it's physically the same size as the 9800, but it is a full VGA resolution screen), so some of your old apps may only use a portion of the screen.. In most cases, if you uninstall the app and re-install from App World, you'll get an updated version of the app that is 9810-aware.

Overall, I like the 9810, the slide mechanism is tighter and less prone to developing that excess movement like on the 9800, and the faster CPU does make it feel a lot more responsive- it's really the device that the 9800 *should* have been from day one..

Also, don't forget your email/BIS account passwords: you'll have to enter them again to get email working on the new device.. Worst case, you may have to swap the SIM card back to your old phone and do password recovery

I'm glad to hear that the slide mechanism is tighter than that of the 9800.
