Tethering Not Working
So I got my Torch 9810 love it but only issue I am having is tethering doesn't seem to be working (Doesn't work when I try to tether with my Playbook or my Laptop so def a phone issue). First I do have tethering on my data plan, it used to work fine on my Torch 9800 and I checked my online account to confirm that its still there and the AT&T rep didn't remove it by mistake. If anyone can give me any suggestions it would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

I had the same issue. Be sure you're selecting the correct profile. You should be selecting the ATT broadband profile. Hope that helps.

Spot on I was selecting AT&T isp.cingular (the one i used to select for the torch 9800). I guess probably because of 4G (FauxG) LTE? Regardless working now so thanks for the pointer, don't know why I didn't try the broadband one guess getting stuck to a routine keeps you there. Thank you once again guaranteed at&t reps wouldn't have figured it out.

Yeah, it took me 3 phone calls to tech support and they couldn't figure it out. Thought it was my plan, until it dawned on me to try the other profile. I happened to be on the phone with them when I selected the Broadband profile, and they said, "Oh if we had known you were choosing the isp profile, we would have told you to select the Broadband profile."
When I picked up my 9810, the rep was trying to rush me out the door because they were closing shop. In doing so, they didn't provision my phone correctly. Had no email/data/app world when I left the store. Had to call first thing in the morning to get it added on.
BTW, have you checked your account online? When I did, it showed that I had a non-smartphone. - 08-23-2011, 03:52 PM

Yea thats the first thing i did. Surprisingly their online system is pretty good, I prefer using that to make changes rather than calling support. You can set when to make changes go into effect and they pro-rate accordingly automatically. I've also noticed adding features is pretty much instant.

I used my Curve 9300 with my Playbook and the Internet connection was always perfect, but since I switched to my Torch 9810, the conection has not been possible with the Playbook. At first I used my laptop with the 9810 and it worked, so I thought everything was fine, but then I updated OS 7, and it stop working, it wont connect neither with the laptop nor the Playbook. If I use my 9300 it works fine, so I dont think it has anything to do with my carrier, I think is more of a software issue. Im thinking to restore my Torch to factory settings and not updating, at least for now. If anyone finds a better solution, please let us know.

Thanks for that reminder. I was on the road the other day and got a strange message when I was trying to tether with my PB. I forget exactly what it said - something like "you can not do this action, use your smart phone to browse the internet". Just changed my settings and worked great!

Sounds more like a software issue since you must be using DM or something similar to enable tethering. As soon as I got mine I set up a bluetooth DUN connection and all worked perfectly the first time using the same settings as my original 9800 and my old 9000.

I can't believe how simple it was to correct this issue - I, too, had the 9800, and had no problems tethering with my laptop, but went through nightmare phone calls with ATT regarding my 9810. One click of the broadband selection on my profile, and it connected almost instantly. Thanks CB fam!
