Man, it's hard to get the back off this phone. Is it just me or does everyone have a problem with this? Bad technique on my part??? How do YOU get the back off?

for the 9810, just put your thumb onto the the middle of the lower portion of the back, apply a light amount of pressure, and slide your finger (make sure you press hard enough so that your finger does not slip) down towards the bottom of the phone.

Yes it's hard sliding the back off a slider phone.....I push down and slide at once usually works for me.

It was pretty difficult for me till I swapped my 9810 battery door with a 9800 door. The 9800 door seems to have much more grip, makes it much easier to get it off.

I broke my back cover. It now slides on its own

I mentioned the same thing in a thread back in Nov. 2011 after getting my 9810. a few techniques were recommended- the one that works best for me is to put the phone in the palm of a hand screen down, place the other hand on top, gently squeeze and twist in the direction of the bottom of the phone. Sounds odd, but you figure it out pretty quick.

Thank you all for the suggestions. I'm going to go through them and practice. I absolutely love the phone, and I rarely have to take the back off for a battery pull. When I do have to take the back off, though, it's always stressful. Like rgshah3 did, I'm afraid I'll break it.

i slip a thumb nail on the top in the crack under the word torch and push down. thats the only way i could open it.

If you slide it on and off a whole bunch of times it will wear it down a bit and make it easier, and you will get more practice. :-)

Hopefully you don't need to be removing the back too many times!

I never had any problem removing mine... mind you, I bought it used. I find that it's not too difficult so long as you don't push down on it too hard. Light pressure and gently push it to the bottom, comes right off every time.
