AT&T tethering
I have the $30/mo. unlimited data plan with AT&T. Does that mean I'm good as far as tethering goes (it doesn't specifically say so)?

I don't even see a plan listed that mentions tethering. Surely that's not an area-based thing. I mean, I figure if I can get on the net as long as I have bars, I ought be able to tether. I only ask because the AT&T wanted my zip-code, then gave me a list of plans: a 3GB, a 5GB, my Unlimited, and a pathetic 300MB one, and none said anything about tethering. I live in BFE, so, if it's area-based, it'll probably be 2035 before we get it here.

Thinking about getting a Playbook, and trying to make sure I have all my ducks in a row first.Torch 9810 - OS 7.1.0.428 (Telstra) - AT&T

To get a tethering plan you would have to give up your unlimited plan and get the 5GB DataPro Plan. Tethering is included in this plan and I believe it is $50/month.

You're other option is to go back to an earlier 7.1 build. I believe .378 is the last build that you can tether an ATT phone without them finding out. But if you do this, ATT will charge you if you go crazy and use a lot of MB's. But it should be no problem for occasional tethering.

It really isn't that big of a deal, I guess. I work from home, so I'd only need to tether occasionally anyway. Their policies just bother me; I mean, if the plan I'm on is supposedly Unlimited, why should they care if I'm looking at the phone screen or a larger device that's tethered when I'm surfing the web?

You can use the bridge to Playbook option, just don't use the one in app world.

Yes when you get the PB you can use the bridge app on your phone to well Bridge your phone. Once bridged you can use the browser on the PB to surf the net. just don't use the bridge app from app world as AT&T has some way of knowing when you bridge the PB. most on AT&T use rroyys app.

So, to clarify, I install rroyys app OTA on my 9810, or on the Playbook? I'm pretty much sold on buying the 16GB version they just announced they were discontinuing; I'm just trying to wait and see if the price drops again as retailers are trying to sell-off their stock backlogs. I looked last night and Best Buy has them for $199 right now.

Didn't give you the Bridge option, as you were asking about tethering. Bridge works just fine as long as you follow above's instructions and download to your phone from rroyy.com.
The fastest Playbook Browser is directly on WiFi. Tethering using your device's Mobile Hotspot is next fastest, and the Bridge Browser is the slowest. But they all work and if you just use it occassionaly the Bridge Browser is adequete (especially for free). - 06-14-2012, 04:14 PM

You guys are awesome! Even as the slowest option, the bridge will work for me. Like I said, I won't need to use it that often; I just want the capability. Oh, and I did donate to RROY. He's the man!

Hey jeremy If you can swing it, get the 32GB PB as the 16GB is to small & soon you will wishing you did.
