Default Sudden battery drain with newly installed 7.1.378

I know there are a lot of old threads on this but I downloaded the newest 7.1.378 from Mobilicity to my AT&T 9810 and since last Friday, the battery has been awesome along with everything else. Then suddenly today (sound familar), my battery started draining at the rate between 10% and 25%. I noticed my icon showed it down around 48% about 1pm today, when its been at 70-80% the last 4 days, so I freaked! The only two things I did different were download the new Crackberry Forum app and uninstall the MemBoo (memory boost) app that was doing nothing while using some memory--ironically! So I did the customary battery pulls (like maybe 5) and reloaded the memboo and uninstalled the Crackberry Forum app and its still discharging at a disturbing rate considering how great its been! Does anyone have any ideas and if so, I'm listening.
Figures--my first ever non-ATT update and all I did was brag about it and now the battery drain Gods have got me!!! As always, any help is appreciated!!

Can you turn the GPS feature off? That could be running and God knows that will drain battery so only use it when you actually need to. Also, try turning wifi off (if it is on) because if you are in a non wifi zone, it will search and drain battery.

ajst222: gps is off on all apps and wifi is off as well. Everything was "on" the last 5 days with zero problems. I have to believe it had to do with the Crackberry app as it was the only thing that was "new" to the system since installing it. I'm not a newbe and thought I had read it all but this is the first thing I've seen on this build. I did use my music player this morning for about an hr in the gym but I use it daily and it's never been an issue. I sure don't want to have to wipe and reinstall again! Thanks

It's not the OS, but most probably an app. First, get rid of any memory app (there's no need for Memboo or any other one). FYI, I deleted the CB app, as it locked up my device a few times. What other apps do you have installed? (Hopefully no battery saving apps either.)
You should uninstall all apps, reboot, and fully charge your phone. Then re-install your apps one at a time while monitoring the battery usage.

Delete the CB and memboo app, then reinstall the OS without wiping. With deleting the memboo app originally, you may have lost some .cod it was using. Just reinstall and everything should be fine

Any memory booster or battery booster apps are truly crap. How can an app that uses memory or battery supposed to make it better? Pretty counter productive and moronic(yet people buy them in droves )

As with any OS it takes a few days to "settle in" to get a full battery measure of how the battery is going to fair on an OS. Start the battery meter in device analyzer(options > device > advanced system settings > device analyzer) and let it run for a couple days. This should narrow it down for you.

Of course you can always reinstall the OS because as mecca mentioned, when you deleted the memboo app it may have deleted a necessary cod.

FYI, I have never seen more then a few percentage points difference(3 to 8, maybe the most at 10) on my battery with any OS upgrade/downgrade. Anything more and I start to dig into whats causing it.
    Cell Phone History:
    Motorola Bag phone > Motorola Star Tac gen1 > Motorola Star Tac gen 2 > Motorola Razr > BlackBerry Pearl(8110) > Iphone gen1 > BlackBerry Curve(8310 Red) > BlackBerry Torch(9800 Black) > BlackBerry Torch II(9810 Gunmetal Silver) > BlackBerry Bold 9900) > BlackBerry Z10(STL100-3 Black)

Hi Everyone! Thanks for the help. I deleted CB Forums app last night (as it all started when I installed that app yesterday morning) and reinstalled the Memboo thinking the same thing--it may have removed or screwed something up when deleting. Amazingly, the battery drain went back to normal almost immediately. I turned the anaylzer back on and today even using media player while in gym to play stored music, it is still only draining at 3.22% an hr on average. prior to the media / bluetooth running for an hour and 10 mins, it was only at 2.20% drain. I'm going to watch it all day to see how it goes and if it gets out of the normal range, I'll wipe and reinstall per Mecca El's instructions. I really do believe it was the CB Forum app--bummer as it worked well. I've read other issues with it like tsell's but not battery drain. Thanks guys!!! Much appreciated! Thanks given to all!

That seems very high! I've let my anaylzer run all day to see if that is a draw and the bluetooth ha been on all day as well--and the current drain is 3.22%/hr-/charge rate is 34.34/hr--backlight is 15.38% and bluetooth is 15.03%. So far so good=-running now close to 8rs and current battery level is still 65% even with the eariler music use via bluetooth. I'll continue to keep everyone posted but it sure seems as though it was the CB Forum app plus deleting the MeeBoo app. May try to uninstall the Memboo app once again to see if that makes a difference.

Hey Mecca--hope you are doing well buddy! Thanks for your advice. How do I reinstall the update? can I do it through DM? I guess what I'm asking is where the phone finds it and knows to reinstall it. Never done that before so I'm looking for instructions. Remeber this is the same guy that took nearly 2 months for you to convince to upgrade from the 7.0--LOL! Thanks

Run the battery test in Device Analyzer (assuming you are on 7.1). It will tell you what is using up the battery.

In other discussions like this, I have seen apps that run in the background that cause this, a bad sim card, a bad app install, poor signal strength, etc. You need to start working through to see what is what.

Hey Newscollector! I'm fairly certain that it was the CB Forum app that caused the drain. It started as soon as I downloaded it from appworld and ended as soon as I deleted it. I am on 7.14.378 and my battery drain as remained around 2-3%/hr since I deleted it. Thanks!

Default Battery drain re: older post

Hey Mecca-hope you are doing well! I wanted to follow up on this and ask for your help.
a while back you told me in this post that when I originally deleted MemBoo that it may have taken a .cod file with it. I wasn't sure how to "Reinstall" the OS again, so I just reloaded the MemBoo app and didn't use it (closed). Finally today, I thought I give it another try and deleted it again through Application Manager and then did a battery pull or Quick Pull (can't remember which). So it's off the phone but now the battery is discharging fast again, at 7.0% an hour.
So once again, I appear to be facing the choice of either putting MemBoo back on the phone (with the .cod it took) or reinstalling the OS--which I don't know how to do. Since I used DM to install originally, do I need to reinstall my apps, etc. after or will it just copy back over the original install (.378) and leave all else as is.
To reinstall via DM, do I click on update then past versions and ?? or what do I do?
    Thanks, Go1ndr (Jack)

    I suggest the following:

    -Turn off Radio/wifi
    -Backup phone with DM
    -Do a wipe with BBSAK
-Launch DM and the Update process should launch automatically for OS load. If it doesn't you can always launch AppLoader manually.
-Once OS finishes loading. Restore your backup.
    -Reinstall your apps

I strongly suggest not backing up apps as you could be backing up your problem. So just do Full DM backup and a full wipe, then re-install your apps 1 by 1.

I go a step further and shrink the OS. My 9810 always stays above 200MB of application memory that way. With FB,Twitter,Whatsapp,BeejiveIM,ScoreMobile,TuneIn Radio loaded.

    Good luck.

    -vic

P.S. Memboo or anny other app that claims the same is total garbage.

Thanks Wedgethx! As many upgrades as I've done and all the advice (for what its worth) that I've given on here, the one thing I've never come across as a question is how to just reinstall with out wiping. I'd like to avoid wiping if possible as I have a lot of business stuff on there in both apps and organizer (appointments and contacts)and apps like Blackberry Travel for instance, that I use constantly.
I just checked the battery drain and it's going back down to normal (on BB battery analizer) so I'm going to give it a day and see what happens. I cleared the battery info and started over this morning so even though the first few reads were around 7-8%, its back down to around 3% now.
One question I have for you is how to shrink an OS. No clue how to do that so any info is much appreciated! Thanks again!

You know what? That might've been what was causing my battery drain after restoring my phone from .342. The dang CB app! It started as soon as I downloaded it. I was down to 20 percent of battery life say at 5 PM in the afternoon whereas I usually wouldn't even get that low when I plugged it in at bed time.

I can tell you that it absolutely drained my battery! The minute I deleted it, it was back to normal. Bummer is, that it is a really good app and I'm not sure why this happens. I have read other posts about it causing phones to stick and be sluggish as well. I may try it again one of these days to see if anything has changed on it. Good luck!
