| | Static HotSpot "SSID",...PLEASE!
Rim, there are times when we want you to think for us and there are times when we don't. What am I refering to you ask? I'm referring to the new "HotSpot" feature in certan BBs! We do not want out devices to determine what the SSID will be. We want/need the ability set a static SSID and would very much like it in the next OS update. I mean c'mon, can you imagine having to lockon to a "new" SSID (....and input your WiFi password) whenever you're using your home wifi? Sure, we know BB devices are mobile, yet we feel quite secure in determining what SSID we want to broadcast. So please, please give us the ability to retain the SSID that we setup?
Thk you vm,...Manager of my own device...

PS: If you agree with this thread,...please max it out!!!!!

Not sure what you are ranting about.
I am perfectly able to set the SSID on my mobile hotspot to whatever name I want.

I have the same one that I set initially.
It has NEVER changed even after I reloaded the device OS.

I have the same problem on an AT&T 9900, was hoping yesterdays leak 7.1.0.267 would fix this, but problem is still there for me.

It isn't the end of the world, just a minor annoyance.

I inititally agreed with the OP, but after a while I decided RIM probably could use the advertising.
No seriously. I figure what's the harm of me being in public and someone seeing "Hey someone has a mobile hotspot on their blackberry"

Same thing here... 9810, 7.1.0.258 on at&t. Drives me nuts to have to reenter a WPA code on every device every time I want to use the hotspot. I have a playbook, touchpad, iPad, and a couple of laptops that I use with my phone connection, and they all need reconfiguring every time I turn it on. Argh, RIM... Never had to do this on WinMo, iPhones, or WebOS devices...

I just leave the WPA key alone and reset the SSID on the BB each time I turn on hotspot.
That way you don't have to renter the key on the devices connecting

I was wondering, all the people who are having issues with the SSID changing, are your phones locked or unlocked? Would/could that make a difference? Just my 2 cents.

| | Hotspot keeps dropping off
Ok -a bit off topic but related. My hotspot keeps on dropping after a couple of mins. I am on 7.1.0.258. Of course, it's almost unusable in this case, so who cares if the SSID keeps changing ;-)
I am on AT&T.
Anyone else seeing this?
