Knowing where the folder is, isn't necessary. The next step in the process is making sure you have the latest version of Blackberry Desktop Manager 7, or the DM 7.1 beta, and Vendelete.exe. Links to both pc applications can be found in the forum threads. Use Vendelete.exe on any RIM OS titled "official", because there's a vendor file attached to some of these OS that prevent them from being recognized by the vendor code assigned to your mode phone. Once that program has cleared out the vendor file, connect your phone to your computer, via usb - yes, I typed that, because someone will ask - and start Desktop Manager. You should see a "star", denoting an available update for your device. Agree to the install, and wait for the all clear from DM before removing your phone from your computer.

I am so frustrated now with the last two updates as nobody can hear me on calls just as with .402. Am I doomed to forever be stuck at .378? Maybe the .5xx updates, if they ever come, will get it right for me.
And I already know I am in the minority with the muting issue, but there is just something about .4xx that just does not want to work with my device.9810 & 9900: MECCA'S LAMBDA PRIME; PlayBook: 16 & 64GB

Vendelete hates me; keeps saying access denied. I always just delete the vendor file manually. Anyway, I figured it out and it's installing now. Apparently, I failed to reboot when it asked me to, and so it never completed the process of overwriting the .342 version that was still in the Apploader folder. Weird.

Good news! Hmmmm, I've never had to reboot, but I'm still using XP - the bestest OS ever!!
And the former OS package never gets overwritten. Each OS is in it's own separate folder, with it own recognition coding, just so that nothing gets crossed up during install. If .342 is on your computer, it is still completely intact. My Primary Device is always my 9810. I just have a Zed...for fun!!

Just tested mine -- still rings; all apps, etc. look good. Turned battery save mode on; I'll post again in a few hours re: the battery drain. I was bleeding, like, 3.85% yesterday on very light use.
Update:
After 1 hour, drain is 8.02%
Not good. This is almost all stand-by time. Only some very light texting and fixing something in the menus that I had forgotten to set before I took it off-charge. Hope it evens-out, otherwise I'll be dumping it. 3.85% was already too much, AFAIC, considering it was almost all standy-by. Aren't these phone supposed to get like 40 hours of stand-by?
Oh yeah, my current setup: H+ full bars, WiFi on and network connected (about half signal), Bluetooth off, Facebook and Twitter feeds set to never update, screen brightness 10% - fades after 20 seconds.Last edited by jeremycrews; 06-09-2012 at 07:05 PM.

I downgraded from .402 to .378 recently and didn't have many issues other than the DM having a 'Runtime C++ fatal error' after backing up, wiping and loading the new OS...which basically made it so I had the new OS loaded but the backup that was created by DM beforehand was lost.
Now granted I was able to recover a lot of my settings through BB Protect and such, but the emails on the device were completely wiped, which is a minor annoyance since I frequently have to search through my work emails which is much faster via BB than through the web portal for the email itself.
Went through the same thing early this morning; fatal error of a C++ Runtime Library using DM, but App Loader seems to work fine.
I suppose my lesson learned should be to do a manual backup going forward as opposed to relying on the DM/App Loader to make a temporary file that's lost if an error occurs.
Otherwise the OS seems to work just fine especially on the RAM drop rate, though Nobex refuses to BBM Connect - states it's been disconnected by RIM, which it said for the .391 leak too. Will have to test the OS out tonight and see as I'm roving about for work if the signal falters out like .391, .378 and .402 were doing - the BB symbol next to the signal bar would drop and all I'd be able to receive were texts, no real data moving unless I killed the connection and turned it back on. - 06-09-2012, 07:47 PM #22
I have downloaded the latest release and am now installing it onto my Blackberry Torch 9810. I was using the .391 from Rogers without any problems. I really did not have any problems with .391 other than battery life was not too good. I will share when I use this OS.

3 hours in on my experiment and battery is at 71%. Not good at all, considering it's mostly just been sitting on my desk. Since my earlier update, all I've done was to send 2 SMS messages, make 3 test calls of less than 1 minute each, watch 1 high-quality movie trailer within the Poynt app, and do 3 battery pulls. 9+% per hour with that little usage is wholly unacceptable. I was already vexed by the 3.85% I was getting yesterday with similar usage on .342, and upgraded specifically because it didn't have the battery save mode. This version does and I have it set to "Always On" and yet my drain is more than double now. Needless to say, I'm not happy, especially considering my Mom just checked her iPhone 3gs in response to my complaining and it's sitting at 81% after being off-charge for more than 9 hours.

I'm switching to my primary battery to see if it gets any better; I was using my backup and a vaguely recall that it acted wonky in the past (which is how it got to be my backup, in the 1st place). Will update in an hour. - 06-09-2012, 09:38 PM #24

Just to clarify: do I need to be doing actual battery pulls, or will using an Auto Reboot app accomplish the same thing? Thanks in advance for the advice.
Even if it's nearly all stand-by? I've seen lots of people saying the same, but then, in the same post, they go on to talk about typing whole work emails, Tweeting and checking Facebook periodically, and taking and making calls. I had my bleed down to 3.85%/hour running .342, but, if I'd been getting as much use out of my phone as those people, it would've been closer to 6-8%/hour, I'd wager.
Update:
1st full hour with primary battery was definitely better, but still not great: 6.12%/hour and the only time I touched it was to check the time twice. Grrr.
Did a battery pull as tsells suggested.
Update 2:
28 minutes into hour #2 and the battery is at 88%.
When the handset rebooted from the battery pull tsells suggested, it was at 90% (93% before the pull -- so just doing a simple battery pull cost me 3%). Then, I got a notification to update an app and went ahead and did it (2.3mb d/l). Let it reboot when it asked after the update, and, when it came back, it was down to 88%.

Update 3:
Hour 2 complete and battery is at 85%. Inexplicably, the analyzer is calling the drain at 6.27%/hour now. How it figures 6.27 + 6.27 = 14+, I'll never know. The so-called average it's reporting increased by only 0.15%, yet the battery dropped from 93% all the way down to 85% in that one hour alone, most of which it was just sitting on my desk untouched.
Update 4:
Hour 3 complete and battery is at 80%. Device Analyzer claiming my drain is 5.78%/hour, meaning, in the math on RIM's planet 5.78x3 = 19+ as opposed to the 17.34 it equals on my planet. Under version .342, the math always added-up perfectly.
And, to top it all off, my Facebook notifications are suddenly dinging my phone again, even though I've already double-checked, just to make sure I'm not crazy, and all of that is turned off in the FB app options. Had this same problem when running 7.0, but it stopped under 7.1.xx.342.
I have no choice but to give this build until, at least, tomorrow before I nook it, because I gotta hit the sack (full day tomorrow -- gonna be real fun with a craptastic half-dead phone!
). Hopefully, tsells' advice about giving it time to settle-in will bear fruit; if not, me and .428 are parting ways. Honestly, even if the battery crap does get better, the Facebook dinging alone will cause me to dump this build if it doesn't stop as well.
