My 9810 Restarts Itself
Update Thurs. 5/17/12: AT&T sent me a new 9810 yesterday. I installed two apps - Scoremobile (v1.9.1) and BeWeather (courtesy of RIM) and my phone just retarted itself this afternoon!! I just uninstalled Scoremobile and we'll see what happens.
It could also be the new SIM I received last week from AT&T?

I am running 7.1.0.205 and I just noticed that my 9810 restarted itself at least once this morning. I pulled the battery and we'll see what happens. I don't know what I installed recently that could be the culprit but I didn't noticed this problem yesterday. Could it be caused by a faulty Wi-fi connection?
Should I try another OS version? Thanks for your comments.

How long have you been using the OS? If you did just install something and it does it again remove it and see if it helps. Go from there.

Update: I installed 7.1.0.378
I installed a newer OS and my 9810 is still randomly rebooting. I am able to use it between reboots of course.
Should I Wipe it clean and install a fresh version of AT&T's OS? Can someone point to to instructions for wiping it clean? I wonder if AT&T will replace it as it's less than 1 year old?
I am running mostly stock Apps except for QuickLaunch.
Thanks for your comments.

I would take it to your carrier if it is less than a year old.

If you removed the vendor files (not an AT&T update) then they may not cover it. If you already removed the vendor files and didn't save them on an external drive (just in case), then I'd wipe and download the new .378 version. Flawless on my AT&T 9810. At&T doesn't have a 7.1 update that is out in our area so I had no choice but to remove vendor files and update to this version of another carriers "Official" release, and it seems to be the best out there. Good luck!

Update: I just noticed a vendor.XMLfile in my AppData > Research in Motion > BlackBerry > Loader XML folder.
It rwead as follows:
<vendorsrc version="0.0.0.0">
</vendorsrc>
Would this have caused the reboot problem?
I did remove the Vendor files and I am running .378. My phone was fine all of last night but I just noticed it restarted itself about 1 hour ago. I spoke with AT&T yesterday and they sent me instructions for reloading the OS. How do I wipe clean and go back to the original AT&T OS? I am thinking that when my apps get re-installed from the backup that could also be where the problem lies.

I wiped my phone clean again using BBSAK and I reinstalled the OS 7.0.0.583 which is what AT&T recommended. It's too early to tell if my reboot problem is now fixed but I should know early tomorrow. Tech support said they wouldn't exchange the phone unless I was running the recommended OS. I was running 7.1 for a while but I switched phones and recently got a new SIM card for my 9810. Who knows, maybe it's the SIM? We'll see tomorrow. I will let you know if problem is not fixed.
Good luck.

Sim cards have been know to be the cause of a number of problems. It could be the issue that you have. Try putting in your old Sim card and see if the phone randomly reboots. If it doesn't, then your new Sim card is the problem. If it does reboot, then take it back and get it fixed or replaced.
Hope you get this worked out. For future reference, if you download and install a leaked OS update (not approved by any carrier) you do not need to delete the vendor.xml files. As you have discovered, they have no values in them. The time you do need to delete the vendor.xml file is when you download and install an OS update that has been approved by a different carrier than yours.Torch 9810, 7.1.0.861

The problem is my other SIM was a micro SIM (for iPhone). After running for about 12 hours with a reloaded OS, my phone started to reboot again today. I called AT&T again and finally they will send me a replacement after making me swear that it has no water damage...
Thanks for the info on the Vendor file.

My 9810 started to do the rebooting on its own just over a week ago. I am running the leaked 7.1.0.342. I have been for almost two months now.
I am hoping that I can figure this problem out when I get home, I have been away, and this last little bit has been real annoying with my phone restarting itself a couple times a day some days.
It restarts it self when I go to do something, say if my phone is locked and I go and slide it open. Sometimes just even in mid-operation.
I hope I can sort it out easily. Anyone else have any ideas?

ROFLMAO gotta love the scare tactics AT&T uses on people who don't know any better.
Any BB I've had that has gone back to AT&T has never had an AT&T OS on it(only thing techs ever told me was "Didn't know that OS was available"). I have never had a problem sending them back without the official OS on it.
FYI, loader as well as DM wipes the device before it loads the OS(watch what it says while its doing it thing, something like "erasing applications and erasing core files"). There is no need to wipe using BBSAK. Its also a pita to try and reload your apps and settings after a complete wipe. Just an extra step that is no longer needed. prior to 6.0 OS's loader as well as DM did not completely wipe the device, hence why the typical OS load procedure was to use BBSAK to wipe it.
Totally not needed now.Cell Phone History:Motorola Bag phone > Motorola Star Tac gen1 > Motorola Star Tac gen 2 > Motorola Razr > BlackBerry Pearl(8110) > Iphone gen1 > BlackBerry Curve(8310 Red) > BlackBerry Torch(9800 Black) > BlackBerry Torch II(9810 Gunmetal Silver) > BlackBerry Bold 9900) > BlackBerry Z10(STL100-3 Black)

Maybe you could try uninstalling all your apps in your phone as some apps can make your phone restart itself due to the fact it might have corrupt files in that make the app run. Also if this doesn't work then do a fresh reinstall of the phone software and see if this fixes the problem.

Ok, my replacement phone restarted twice today. The last restart occurred as I was typing an email and I lost the message. Anyhow, I now deleted the last and only app left that I installed. It definitely wasn't Scoremobile causing the problem.
I am starting to think it's the SIM or possibly my Sandisk memory card?
I just did a battery pull just in case and I will wait until tomorrow to see if I will go get a new SIM.
Thanks for any comments.

I have been having the restart issue too with an almost new 9810 from Rogers that I unlocked myself to run on Fido. It is completely random, as I am affected when doing anything from web browsing to reading and typing email to scrolling through settings menus. I upgraded to 7.1 from Telus because Rogers is dragging their feet, it did not solve the problem. Eventually I stripped my OS of everything, including BBM, but that was not helpful either.
I removed my SIM card and reinstalled my entire OS and app suite and ran for half a day using wifi without a single issue. So then I got a new SIM card from Fido last night and it lasted for a few hours without rebooting, but eventually it was too good to be true, as it rebooted twice within five minutes. It also rebooted once this morning on my way to work, but since then it's been doing fine.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed, but if it goes back to its old behavour, I'll be looking at getting it replaced. - 05-22-2012, 07:45 PM #24
Flaw
I use a Bold 9650 and My phone was restarting itself all the time because I had too many apps installed onto it. Because on the New BlackBerry 7 phones, they only give you a certain amount of application storage. The older phones use all the RAM device storage. So it may show that you have a certain amount of space, but once you reach a certain limit in space, this reboot will keep happening. I have to keep my Bold above 180 MB. I believe it's just a flaw in the OS of all BlackBerry devices. I have seen it happen on most devices where it will go into reboot and sometimes won't stop. Even on the Bold 9900 it happens. That's why they went and are going to QNX with BB10, which fixed the flaw in the OS.
