Default Mobile hotspot strain on data/battery?

So has anyone really used mobile hotspot? I was planning on using it (all day) for an imessage group on my ipod touch. Anyone know how severe the strain is on the battery/data it is?

Unless you got unlimited I wouldn't recommend using it all day. It'll eat your data like crazy!

Would not recommend that unless you have unlimited data plan and back up battery source because it tends to drain battery quicker because there is still few glitches in the OS7

I've been using hotspot since last year, on my 9810. It's a great feature to have as a back up wifi hub. It will quickly consume you're battery because it's pulling double duty on the your wifi antenna. Just keep your phone plugged into a power source; it's wireless, so the phone doesn't have to been in your pocket.

As far as you using it all day, if you have the correct data plan for it, rock on. If you don't have the proper data plan, and still use the hotspot feature, you'll have a wonderful surprise in your mailbox at the end of the billing cycle. Use with common sense.
My Primary Device is always my 9810. I just have a Zed...for fun!!

I'd say it will use a LOAD of your data as the iPod has no compressed data and sucks it back. And as far as the battery goes it does drink it with the hotspot. I wouldn't recommend it unless you have unlimited data.

Could try using built in data monitor to keep track of data. It doesn't differentiate wifi vs cell network, but for what you need it should work.

go into device analyzer-->cell network-->monitor data usage

Sadly, that doesn't include data used by the hotspot (atleast for me).

To the OP, I can usually get 6 or 7 hrs out of my 9810 using it just as a hotspot. If i'm actively using it and have the hotspot on, I'm lucky to get 3.

When I use wi-fi hotspot I plug the phone into the the charger if an electrical outlet is available

You'll need to plug it into the charger for all-day use

It kills the battery, I went from 70% battery to 20% in about an hour.

hotspot works well. this is not intended to replace your regular wifi network. this is more for sporadic use when wifi hotspots are not available. do watch your data usage, especially if your laptop is connected to bb hotspot. www sites optimized for desktop computers use much more data. overall love this os7.1 feature. hotspot alone would never make me switch to ios or android phones..
